Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infectious disease caused by bacteria that usually affect the lungs. It's highly contagious and can be spread through the air when someone with the disease coughs or sneezes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 10 million people develop TB disease each year, and about 1.6 million people die from it.

Signs and symptoms of TB can include a cough (sometimes with blood), weight loss, loss of appetite, nights sweats, fever, chills, fatigue, muscle atrophy, shortness of breath . If you experience any of these symptoms, it's important to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

The following preventive measures can help reduce your risk of contracting TB:

- Vaccination with the BCG vaccine at birth
- Avoiding close contact with people who have active TB disease
- Washing your hands frequently and covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing
- Eating a nutritious diet and getting regular exercise to keep your immune system strong.

Remember that early detection and treatment is key to managing and treating TB effectively. Please consult your doctor if you have any concerns or questions about your health.

Today is WORLD MALARIA DAY 2023

Theme: ‘“Time To Deliver Zero Malaria: Invest, Innovate, Implement.”

Malaria is a serious tropical disease in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America that is transmitted by infected mosquitoes through their bites, causing severe flu-like symptoms such as fever, sweats, chills, headaches, malaise, muscles aches, nausea, and vomiting. Although not contagious, anyone can get it, and If left untreated, it can develop into life-threatening conditions such as organ failure or even death, but most severely with children and pregnant women. The disease is however preventable and curable, but not without quick medical attention and treatment.

World Malaria Day was instituted by World Health Organization (WHO) Member States during the 2007 World Health Assembly, and it is held every year on April 25th. It is designed to spread awareness of the disease, as well as expose investments and commitments towards its eradication. The continued campaign of prevention is proving effective and life saving since efforts to highlight prevention is aimed at reducing the death toll, although still a long way to go.

It is also a day to celebrate the advancements in malaria treatment and the decreasing rates of malaria worldwide, engendered by increasing use of preventative vaccines, insecticides, mosquito nets and medications for those infected. Just two days before 2019 World Malaria Day, doctors in sub-Saharan Africa began immunizing children with the world’s first malaria vaccine. That year, the reported cases of malaria was 558,000, as against 896,000 reported cases in 2000. Also, between 2010 and 2015, the rate of new malaria cases fell by 21 per cent and its death rates lowered by 29 per cent globally the same period

The theme of 2023 World Malaria Day is "Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement." In a plan to reduce mortality rates by 90% this decade.
