List of 203 Primary Healthcare Centres to be renovated and equipped with health facilities by Gov. Abba K Yusuf's administration across the 44 Local Governments. This is in addition to the 18 primary facilities currently being upgraded to secondary facilities across the state.

We are pleased to announce that the he Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the provision of free medication for children at Marmara Maternity Hospital. This initiative is aimed at complementing the ongoing free services at Hasiya Bayero Paediatrics Hospital, ensuring a more comprehensive and accessible healthcare system for children across the state.

Furthermore, in a move to enhance service delivery, the Paediatrics Ward has now been officially attached to Marmara Maternity Hospital, strengthening its capacity to serve the healthcare needs of our young ones.

This commendable step reaffirms the Governor’s dedication to child health and welfare in Kano State.

Right Answer: Marcus Gunn Jaw-Winking Syndrome

Diagnosis

Marcus Gunn Jaw-Winking Syndrome is a rare congenital synkinetic movement disorder caused by miswiring of the oculomotor (CN III) and trigeminal (CN V) nerves. It presents as unilateral ptosis that improves when the patient moves their jaw (e.g., chewing or opening the mouth). Diagnosis is clinical, based on characteristic jaw-induced eyelid elevation.

Therapy & Treatment

Mild cases require no treatment. Severe cases with significant ptosis or amblyopia may need ptosis surgery (levator excision or frontalis sling) to improve function. Eye patching is recommended in children with amblyopia. Neurological assessment ensures no other cranial nerve abnormalities.
