Centre for Women, Youth and OVC Empowerment Initiative

Centre for Women, Youth and OVC Empowerment Initiative and to enhance the Capacity of Women and Youth in the State and beyond. These calamities have claimed quite a number of people's lives.

The Centre for Women Youth and OVC Empowerment Initiative was established to resettle the street children, abandoned and neglected children, orphans without any care. At the beginning of 2012, some of the concerned men and women of Lafia Metropolis carried out a quick situation analysis regarding the plight of Women, Youth, Orphans and other Vulnerable Children who are neglected and abandoned in t

he state. Realizing that Women, Youth and Orphan’s challenges were big, a decision was made to initiate “The Nasarawa State Women, Youth, Orphans and Vulnerable Children Empowerment Initiative” by some individuals to enhance their capacity and to improve the environmental development of Women and Youth by providing aid services such as empowerment program that would build their capacity. The Initiative will like to take full responsibility in providing skill acquisition program and also provide medical care, food, education, clothing and beddings for the orphans and vulnerable children. Additional to that the Initiative also offers psychosocial support to reduce stigma associated with these children. To this end, the initiative is to advocate and lobby for assistance for the orphans and other vulnerable people like people living with disabilities, women, and widows, youth, people living with HIV/AIDS etc. Some of the challenges discovered have indicated that despite government efforts to integrate these people in the development process, Women, Youth, Orphans and other vulnerable children in Nasarawa State remained vulnerable to the pending of poverty, illiteracy and ignorance. These vulnerable children have experienced disasters ranging from Conflicts, malaria, HIV/AIDS etc. Hence many orphans left without any help. As much as government is trying to help the youth, women and other vulnerable children in the state, the people are too many and suffering in terms of lacking basic needs, and that the Government cannot afford satisfying their needs all together. As a result, most of these vulnerable people have ended up being victims of HIV/AIDS, thieves, drug abuse, street children etc. The Initiative would like each person to sponsor at least a child, contribute towards their shelter, medical care, education, clothing and bedding, food and general welfare.
