Episode 1:
Hey, welcome to Heart to Heart, the podcast where we take a closer look at the big feelings that shape our lives. I’m Zobi, and today, I want to talk about something that’s everywhere, but still kind of mysterious—love. Not just the movie kind or the stuff you see on Valentine’s Day, but the real, messy, surprising ways love shows up in our lives.
So, let’s get into it. When you hear the word “love,” what pops into your head? Maybe it’s your partner, your mum, your best friend, or even your favorite jollof rice. That’s what’s wild about love—it’s not just one thing. It’s a feeling, sure, but it’s also a choice, a habit, sometimes even a headache. And honestly, the more I think about it, the more I realize just how many shapes love can take.
Let’s start with the basics. There’s romantic love, of course. The butterflies, the late-night calls, the way your heart races when you see someone you care about. But even that isn’t simple. Think about your first crush—remember how intense that felt? Like, you’d do anything just to get noticed. Or maybe you remember your first heartbreak, when it felt like the world was ending. What’s interesting is, scientists say those feelings are real chemical reactions in your brain. Dopamine, oxytocin, all those fancy words—your body is basically throwing a party when you fall in love. But those chemicals don’t last forever. That’s why, after the honeymoon phase, things can start to feel… different.
And that’s where the real work begins. I read something recently that stuck with me: “Love is less about finding the right person and more about being the right person.” That hit me. Because, sure, it’s easy to love someone when everything’s new and exciting. But what about when they annoy you? Or when life gets stressful? That’s when love turns into a verb—something you do, not just something you feel.
