THE FACTS, TRUTH, AND MYTH ABOUT ALTERNATIVE/COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE.
Complementary medicine simply is a supportive medical system used with the conventional orthodox medicine after administratring the usual medications or treatment. Alternative medicine deal more about indigenous traditional medicine of various socities and cultures of the world. Both form of health practice harness the power of healing in natural materials like roots, leaves, bark, seeds, fruits, flowers etc. It is an holistic approach that focus more on prevention than cure. This is achieve by laying emphacies on healthy lifestyle in terms of nutrition, exercise, healthy daily routine, herbal medications, etc.

Across the world, it is a FACT that alternative medicine is largely accepted though not regulated in all place however, in some countries like Canada, USA, Germany and Europe, proper training and licencing is a prerequisite to practice alternative medicine. This is not the case in most African countries with a very large population of poeple who rely on alternative medicine for the primary healthcare. Some African countries also have regulatory bodies but not to such an organized level that ensure qualitative service delivery hence, the room for alot of false, myth, and hazards on health. Africa is no doubt blessed with an abundance of luxuriant medicinal plants and materials but for the lack of plannings and political and strategic will to develope her unique health system as seen in the Asian ayurveda and Chinese medicine system, her largely vulnerable populace look up for medical help in the orthodox system which is not readily available and expensive especailly in the core rural communities.

Naturopathy, homeopathy, phytotheraphy, integrative medicine, herbalism, ayurveda etc are terms used in relation to alternative medicine. What are the FACTS? TRUTH? AND MYTHS? about nature's base medicine your have heard?

It lack dosage?
It is harmful?
Is if fettish?
It is believe based?
It is dirty and poisonous?

HOW SAFE IS HERBAL MEDICINE?

Herbal and natural medicine can be very helpful. Unfortunately, exaggerated media often plays up the potential harms of natural medicine, herbal medicine has been used for ages and is generally safe. It’s actually one of the safest and cheapest forms of medicine we’ve ever had and herbs are the number one type of medicine people still use around the globe today; especially in developing and underdeveloped regions of the world due to it accessability

Like conventional medicine, herbals remedies are SAFE, AND EFFECTIVE however, herbals can also be with side effect and can be very TOXIC too IF NOT PROPERLY USED.

the MYTH is that since herbals are naturally derived, there are no negative effect. THIS IS NOT TRUE but a MYTH.

The FACT is that herbals derived from plants and other organic products CAN BE HARMFUL too if used in ignorance and without prescription.

The TRUTH is that that there are persons trained and are knowledgeable about the use of herbals and how it can be used as preventive and curative remedies. They can differentiate between BELIEVE BASED and FACTUAL BASED herbal remedies and when it is appropriate for it to be used, The DOSAGE, and DURATION of use. The general believe is that these persons are fe**sh and are spiritually inclined. How true is this??
