Miguel Garcia, a 31-year-old Spanish soccer player for Salamanca, suffered a cardiac arrest (CA) and collapsed during a game with Real Betis on October 24. Garcia was revived before he was rushed to the hospital where a stent was put in.

Cardiac Arrest does not connote death outrightly, what you do when it occurs is what matters.

Miguel Garcia, On 24 October 2010, during a home game against Real Betis (0–3 home loss), he suffered a cardiac arrest in the 57th minute and collapsed. He was attended by doctors of both teams, who revived him with cardiac massage and the use of a defibrillator; he left the stadium in a stable condition, subsequently undergoing tests at the Salamanca University Hospital.

After the event, in which his heart reportedly stopped beating for "about 25 seconds", GarcΓa's club praised the "rapid and efficient intervention" of doctors from both Salamanca and Betis, credited with saving the player's life. Shortly before he left the hospital facilities, it was announced by the medical staff he would have to retire from football with immediate effect.

To remain competent and confident to act when necessary, continuous practice is the rule.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading cause of mortality, accounting for 17 million (30%) global deaths annually. In the U.S alone, over 300,000 deaths due to out-of-hospital-cardiac-arrest occur annually.

Similarly, a report on the Journal of electrocardiology, SCA account for as much as twice as many deaths as HIV, malaria and TB combined in developing countries

According to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest foundation, there is currently no nationwide standard for surveillance to monitor incidences and outcomes of cardiac arrest in the U.S. This could also account for the poor surveillance of SCA in sub saharan Africa.

The survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest is less than 1% worldwide and close to 5% in the US.

Amidst the high level of awareness in the United States, the prevalence of reported current CPR training still fall below 20%.

Cardiac Emergency Remediation is a necessary skill for All; professionals and non-professionals alike.

Our organization has a goal of training 5,000 health and allied health professionals in cardiac related management in 2021.

Partner with us to make this happen.
