Sickle Cell Crisis Prevention Daily Routine
Morning Routine
1.Wake up & hydrate first thing
* Drink 1–2 cups (250–500 ml) of water before breakfast.
* Take your prescribed dosage of Xickle Syrup medication.
* Avoid starting the day with only tea/coffee — they can dehydrate you.
2. Warm body up
*If cold, wear a light sweater or wrap before leaving bed to avoid sudden temperature changes.
* Light stretching or gentle movement to improve blood flow.
3. Balanced breakfast
* Protein (eggs, beans, fish) + whole grains + fruits.
4. Medication check
* Take folic acid, hydroxyurea, or any prescribed medicines by your doctor.
* If on penicillin prophylaxis (children), give morning dose.
☀️ Daytime Routine
Hydration goal: 2–3 litres of fluids daily (water, coconut water, natural fruit juice).
* Carry a refillable water bottle at all times.
* In hot climates, sip every 20–30 minutes.
Activity & work
Avoid sudden overexertion — take short breaks.
* If working in AC or cold environments, keep a jacket or scarf handy.
* Avoid prolonged standing without movement.
Food
* Lunch should include:
* Protein (lean meat, fish, legumes)
* Vegetables & fruits
* Complex carbs (brown rice, yam, whole wheat pasta)
* Avoid skipping meals — low energy can trigger crises.
🌆 Evening Routine
1. Take your Xickle Syrup medication before dinner
2. Hydration check — if you haven’t reached your daily water target, sip steadily.
3. Light physical activity — walk, stretch, or yoga for circulation.
4. Dinner — lighter than lunch, but still balanced.
5. Warm shower/bath — keeps muscles relaxed, prevents vasoconstriction in cold weather.
🌙 Night Routine
* Wear comfortable, warm sleepwear.
*Keep a glass of water near the bed.
*Sleep 7–9 hours — fatigue can trigger crises.
*If using mosquito nets in malaria-prone areas, ensure they’re intact and treated.
