Watching the recent viral video where a bike man got carried away by flood ( with his 2 passengers narrowly escaping) almost got me triggered.

I recalled the scary life- threatening experience my mum and I had with flood. We narrowly escaped death by a hair's breadth. 😭

You can read about that experience here 👇👇

Sadly, such cases of death from
under-estimating the strong force/pressure of flood has been much reported these few days of recent flooding disaster.

I also watched another video, sometime ago, where some individuals got into a pick up van and brazenly tried to drive through an enormous body of flood waters, but all got carried away to their deaths by the raging torrents of water .

With the recent flooding, my people, we really need to be careful.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF TORRENTIAL WATER FLOW.

The flood that carried my mum and I was just through a small ditch by the side of our house. But mehn, while struggling with the tides, it felt like I was in a deep ocean of water.😥

Please, as much as lieth within you, following any heavy downpour, endeavour to exercise patience and wait for gurgling, flowing bodies of waters to subside before trying to cross through.

Never, I REPEAT, never underestimate the power of any torrential flowing body of water.

May we be delivered/ kept safe from watery graves 😥🙏🏻🙏🏻 (Amen)

This week,

I choose me.
I choose positivity.
I choose my happiness.
I choose to parent with calm.
I choose to open my heart to love.
I choose to show up strong.
I choose to address, rather than avoid, conflict.
I pick my battles wisely.
I pick active involvement over aloofness.
I pick connection over control.
I pick assertiveness over aggression I pick passion over passivity.

I pick pounded yam over semo😊
I pick sleep over senseless small talks🤓

What are your choices and picks for the week?😊

Yesterday, I facilitated a session at the Teens Retreat of the Dunamis Teen Church (Teens Department of the Mother church, Eagles Assembly), Lagos State.

It was a deeply educative and enlightening Drug Abuse Prevention session. 👍And immersive too.

Trust teenagers to fire questions on every side.😀

But I absolutely loved the fact they could bare their thoughts and seek clarity for the substance abuse- related questions they had.

Even funny ones like

- If Ma*****na is addictive or 'bad', why did God create it?

- Is it bad to use Ma*****na to cook food?

And serious ones like -

- How can one fully break free from P**n?

- Can't one use alcohol/ drugs and not suffer consequences?

And so many other questions I had to tackle.

Special thanks to you Nkechi Adebayo Johnson for this opportunity. I truly appreciate the privilege of imparting your teens.❤️💕

Meanwhile, images below are 2 slides from my PowerPoint presentation during the session.

May they bless some soul this day🙏🏻🙏🏻

So, we will be having family sessions/trainings on various soft skills over the next few weeks.

Last night, I presented the Orientation session. The image below was a slide on my PowerPoint presentation.

Me (to the children) : Now tell me, what should be your attitude during these trainings? A (an attitude of co-operation/togetherness in learning) or B (an attitude of aloofness and distraction)?

My 2 teenagers : B!!! (without battling an eyelid and smiling mischievously)

Me - I am serious here. Answer me correctly joor!!

Them (bursting out in laughter): Since you know the correct answer, why are you asking us nau?

Gosh, what sort of gbas gbos is this so?🙈

Honestly though, humourous savagery and teenagers is like 5 and 6.🤠

One core attribute you need to effectively parent teenagers is a GOOD SENSE OF HUMOUR /ABILITY TO TAKE HUMOUROUS JABS IN GOOD FAITH.

Otherwise, the fireworks of conflicts would never cease.😏

Of course, teach/help them differentiate between HEALTHY and TOXIC humour.

May I repeat it?

A good sense of humour is a bonding/connection tool with your teenager💕

Emotions are energies. They create atmospheres.

The atmosphere you create (or don't create but tolerate) can either improve or reduce your productivity. It can increase or demote you.

You must realize there is an atmosphere for optimal productivity

Daily,, intentionally choose your emotions, irrespective of circumstances, events, outcomes.

I intentionally choose
🔥Positivity
🔥Joy
🔥Forgiveness
🔥Gratitude
🔥Optimism

Dear Parent, Hurt differs from Harm.

Tough love may hurt your child's feelings, but won't harm him/her.

Inability to bear your child’s pain/discomfort, and consequently avoiding discipline or corrective consequences isn't healthy.

Neither for you nor for your child.

Behavioural outcomes, to a large extent, depends on the balance of tough and soft love employed.

Every child sure needs a parent who can distinguish between hurt and harm.
