Fibroids are growths that develop from the muscle layer of the uterus (womb & non-cancerous). They are solid tumors made up of smooth muscle cells, they range in size, from as small as a grain of rice to as big as a melon.

Pedunculated Fibroids: Usually attached to the uterus by a stalk.
The effect of uterine fibroids on fertility can be in a variety of ways. If fibroids grow and block the uterus or fallopian tubes, they may make it harder to become pregnant. They may also have other negative effects on pregnancy such as miscarriage and preterm pregnancy.
Once a woman goes through menopause, fibroids will stop growing or will shrink down. So, postmenopausal women with fibroids do not often experience symptoms related to their fibroids and when they do, it calls for further check to rule out the possibility of cancer.
