Sun-Safe Beauty and Skincare Tips: 5 Ways to Prevent Sun Damage
During the summer, we can get all excited about fun in the sun. But it’s important to remember that prolonged sun exposure can damage your skin. At CubbyCays MedSpa, we’re passionate about helping you achieve radiant, healthy skin while staying sun-safe. I’ll be sharing 5 tips for sun protection and improving your skincare routine.
1. Start with Sunscreen as Your Base
Just like you wouldn’t build a house without a solid foundation, you shouldn’t start your skincare routine without applying sunscreen. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and apply it generously to your face, neck, and any other exposed areas of skin. Reapply every two hours, especially if you’re spending time outdoors.
2. Opt for Sun-Safe Beauty Products
When selecting beauty products such as moisturizers, foundations, and lip balms, look for formulations that offer built-in sun protection. Many cosmetics now come with added SPF, providing an extra layer of defense against harmful UV rays. Remember, sunscreen in your makeup is not a replacement for standalone sunscreen, but it can offer added protection throughout the day.
3. Seek Shade and Wear Protective Clothing
While sunscreen is essential, it’s not the only line of defense against UV damage. Whenever possible, seek shade during peak sun hours (typically between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.) to reduce your overall sun exposure. Additionally, wearing protective clothing such as wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and lightweight, long-sleeved shirts can help shield your skin from the sun’s rays.
4. Stay Hydrated and Nourish Your Skin
Hydrated skin is healthy skin, so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Incorporate hydrating skincare products into your routine, such as serums, moisturizers, and masks formulated with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E to replenish moisture and nourish your skin.
5. Schedule Regular Skin Check ups
Finally, don’t neglect your skin health. Schedule regular skin check ups with a dermatologist to monitor for any changes or abnormalities that could indicate skin cancer or other skin conditions. Early detection is key to successful treatment, so make sure to prioritize your skin health year-round.
