Anjola was invited by her neighbor Iya Shikira to the naming ceremony of her niece. Anjola was elated. Her 1-0-1 would be 1-1-1 for Monday.

She dressed in her best attire and got to the venue just in time for the hot Amala that was being served.

Iya Shikira on seeing her, quickly motioned her to a seat and served her Amala, gbegiri and ewedu paired with 2 pieces of hefty goat meat.

Anjola was about to dig into her food when she saw out of the corner of her eyes two women holding themselves behind her. She thought they were just playing until it got more physical and they started exchanging slaps and blows. She carefully put down her bowl of Amala and ran into the midst of the 'two fighting' to 'separate' them.

The next thing she heard was 'gbosa'. One of the fighters had thrown a blow to the other woman but unfortunately, it landed on Anjola's right eye as she jumped in their middle to separate the fight.

Anjola wringed in pain as all she could see were stars.

She was taken to the eye clinic where she was diagnosed to have Sub-conjuctival haemorrhage secondary to blunt ocular trauma. She was treated and she went home without eating her Amala.

Anjola was very lucky, many have lost their eyes and even lives because they attempted to be peacemakers.

A blow to the eyes like that can cause secondary glaucoma, traumatic cataract, lens subluxation amongst other serious eye conditions.

So be a peace maker by calling law enforcement agents like the police but NEVER separate those fighting. Ciaos
