âA New Discovery That Made My Day đżđâ
I saw something unique today, and I couldnât stop smiling.
You see, fruits and vegetables always catch my eyeâespecially the ones Iâve never seen before. I was walking past a mallamâs fruit and veg stand when this deep purple leaf stopped me in my tracks. Gorgeous. Bold. Unfamiliar.
Curious, I asked for the name. He shrugged. âI donât know o.â
I laughed and said, âHow can you not know what youâre selling?â đ
Thankfully, Google Lens came to the rescue.
Turns out itâs called garden oracheâalso known as red orache, mountain spinach, or French spinach. Ever heard of it?
Of course, I bought it immediatelyâto add to my salad and smoothie. I mean⌠purple leaves? Thatâs rare! The only other purple veg I usually see around is cabbage.
My research shows this vegetable is a powerhouse of vitamins A and C, and it also provides calcium, iron, and magnesium. These help to boost immune function, help prevent iron deficiency anaemia, help with nerve and muscle function, and promote digestive health due to its fibre content.
This little adventure reminded me of something I deeply believe:
Eating a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables (âeating the rainbowâ) gives your body a wide range of powerful nutrientsâespecially phytonutrients that protect and heal.
So Iâm curious:
đŁ Are you the type who loves to try new foods?
đ Do you get excited by colourful plates like I do?
đĽ Or are you stuck in a food routine that could use a little spark?
Trying something new might seem small, but itâs one of the easiest ways to open the door to better healthâone colourful bite at a time.
Have you seen this leaf before? Would you try it?
