GRAND FINALE: SENATOR ADEOLA CONCLUDES OGUN WEST TOWN HALL/MEGA EMPOWERMENT & THANK YOU TOUR IN ILARO, YEWA SOUTH

Ilaro, Yewa South LGA – Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) successfully concluded his Town Hall Meeting, Mega Empowerment, and Thank You Tour across Ogun West Senatorial District with a grand finale held in Ilaro, the heart of Yewa South Local Government Area. The tour, which covered all five local government areas of the district, served as both a platform for feedback and an avenue for direct community impact through empowerment initiatives.

The Mega Empowerment Programme, a highlight of the tour, showcased the tangible benefits of Senator Adeola’s commitment to grassroots development. In particular, the leatherwork training programme stood out, with 150 beneficiaries producing belts, shoes, and other leather goods. As a gesture of appreciation, the trainees presented some of their handcrafted items to Senator Adeola, who expressed deep pride in their achievements.

The grand finale drew a large crowd and was graced by prominent dignitaries from the local, state, and federal levels of government. Traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, and various interest groups were also in attendance, underscoring the significance of the event and the wide support for Senator Adeola’s initiatives.

“This is more than an empowerment programme—it’s a movement towards self-reliance and economic transformation,” Senator Adeola stated. “I am proud of what these young people have accomplished, and I pledge to scale up the programme to reach 1,000 beneficiaries. I also plan to establish a Leatherwork Centre right here in Ogun West to sustain this initiative.”

The Thank You Tour served not only to showcase achievements but also to express gratitude to the people of Ogun West for their continued support. In each LGA visited, Senator Adeola held interactive sessions with constituents, distributed empowerment materials, and reaffirmed his dedication to effective representation and sustainable development.

The grand finale in Ilaro marked a homecoming for the senator, who reiterated his resolve to serve with purpose and results.

“As we round off this tour where it all began—in Yewa South—I am reminded of our shared vision and the trust you have placed in me. My promise remains the same: to serve diligently, listen attentively, and act decisively,” he concluded.

Senators YAYI, Abiru, Opeyemi, Karimi: The Kingmakers of the 10th Senate - Our Parliamentary Leadership Award 2024 Recipients

By Dr. Dayo Israel, National Youth Leader, APC

Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio might not have ascended to the highly exalted position of Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria if not for the doggedness and tenacity of Senators Solomon Adeola Olamilekan (YAYI), Mikhail Tokunbo Abiru, Michael Bamidele Opeyemi, and Sunday Karimi, among others. The seat was hotly contested, with Senator Abdulazeez Yari, a former Governor of Zamfara State and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Resources, leading a formidable opposition.

However, this quartet orchestrated the victory of Akpabio on two key moral grounds. Firstly, they advocated for a balance of faith in the nation's leadership, insisting that after a Muslim-Muslim presidency, the Senate Presidency should be held by someone of Christian extraction.

Despite three of the four being Muslims, they exemplified unity and moral conviction by championing this cause, becoming like modern-day Cyrus figures used by God to achieve balance and fairness in the leadership of the National Assembly. Echoing the historical title of English monarchs as “Defenders of the Faith,” these senators rose above sectarian interests for national unity.

Though some argued that the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket should not influence National Assembly leadership given its status as an independent arm of government, the quartet, with the backing of the President, firmly believed that the Senate Presidency should reflect Nigeria's diversity and worked tirelessly to ensure a Christian from the South emerged as Senate President.

Beyond their roles in Senate leadership, these lawmakers share a passion for grassroots development, leaving indelible marks in their constituencies:

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, FCA
Representing Ogun West, YAYI is a whirlwind of impact. His initiatives span youth and women empowerment, education, and economic development. His YAYIHELP initiative, Bursary, and Scholarship Awards have benefited over 19,463 students, with 931 students receiving scholarships in 2024 alone. In addition to education, he provides vocational training, capacity building, and business tools for SMEs, transforming countless lives in his constituency.

Senator Mikhail Tokunbo Abiru
Representing Lagos East, Abiru, fondly called the “Doing Good Senator,” has transformed his constituency through initiatives like the SAIL Innovation Lab, SAIL Empowerment Foundation, and the SAIL Teachers Fellowship Program. These platforms have advanced grassroots sports, STEM education, and tech innovation, while empowering young leaders and creating jobs in the tech ecosystem.

Senator Michael Bamidele Opeyemi
From Ekiti Central, Bamidele is a legislative powerhouse and infrastructure advocate. He has helped the Tinubu administration navigate complex legislative procedures while ensuring its agenda aligns with government bills. His grassroots impact includes the construction of an Intensive Care Unit at the General Hospital, Iyin, and the 15km Iyin-Ilawe Road. His work exemplifies leadership that extends beyond the Senate chambers.

Senator Sunday Karimi
Representing Kogi West, Karimi is renowned for his unwavering dedication to his constituents. Fondly referred to as the “Talk and Do Senator,” he has kept his promises, including releasing ₦10 million to support victims of the Embwa boat mishap in Kupa, Lokoja LGA, and contributing ₦23 million toward the reconstruction of the Pakuta Bridge, which connects several local governments to Niger State.

For their pivotal roles in securing faith-based balance in the Country’s National leadership and their tireless commitment to grassroots development, we are proud to announce Senators Olamilekan Adeola Solomon, fondly referred to as YAYI, Abiru, Opeyemi (MOB), and Karimi as recipients of our Parliamentary Leadership Award 2024.

Their efforts exemplify the highest ideals of public service, and their impact continues to resonate in their constituencies and beyond.

2027 OGUN GOVERNORSHIP:
PUBLIC OPINION FAVOURS OGUN WEST AND SENATOR ADEOLA.

Not less than 80 percent of contributors on a public enlightenment programme on a popular radio station in Abeokuta, the Rock City FM, have advocated that fairness, equity and capacity of aspirants rather than just ethnic background should determine who succeeds Governor Abiodun as Governor in 2027.

The contributors made their comments through phone calls and messages in reaction to the discussion on the friction in the Egbalokan group over whether Egba aspirants should be limited to only those from paternal lineage or extended to cover also those from maternal lines.

The programme titled “Citizens Forum on Ogun 2027 and the Egbalokan Controversy “, had a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the Bada Baamofin Egba, Professor Yemi Oke, Founder and Convener of the Egbalokan Agenda Group as guest.

Professor Oke advocated that only an aspirant of Egba ancestry by paternal or maternal lineage would be supported by the Egbalokan group to ensure that the development of Egbaland is not compromised nor jeopardized.

However, majority of the contributors were quick to point out that Senator Solomon Adeola (YAYI) fits squarely into that category of aspirants whose mother is from Kemta Abeokuta and has shown the capacity to ensure the development of Egbaland, if his track record over the years, especially as Senator of Ogun West is considered.

They pleaded that with a personality like Senator Adeola, the Egbas need not look any further for any other candidate towards 2027.

“This time around, with an aspirant like Senator Adeola, the Egbas should be ready to sheathe their political swords as a matter of being fair and magnanimous to the Yewa people who have never been Governor in Ogun State. We should show that the Egbas are large hearted, ready to accommodate the Yewas and negotiate with Yayi who by coincidence and divine intervention is also our son in Egbaland”, a popular caller who introduced himself as an Egba man pleaded.

It would be recalled that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976 and the advent of democratic rule in the State, the Ijebus, Remos and Egbas have been governors, leaving out only the Yewas, out of the four major ethnic groups.

In the same vein, out of the three Senatorial Districts, only the Ogun West, comprising Yewa and Aworis, is yet to produce a governor for the State.

THISDAY

OGUN GUBER: OLADELE LAUDS EGBA GROUP’S POSITION ON YAYI.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) leader and member of the Ogun State Caucus of the Party, Hon. Kayode Oladele has expressed great satisfaction with the leadership of “Egba Lokan Agenda 2027 “, a rainbow coalition movement formed to identify and support the emergence of a credible Egba indigene as governor of Ogun State in 2027, for recognizing the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Aremo Solomon Olamilekan Adeola popularly known as Yayi as one of Egba hopefuls to lead the Gateway State.

In a release signed by its leader, Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, the group states that a number of Egba sons and daughters have been identified and or rumored as likely aspirants for Ogun State Governorship seat in the year 2027 and went further to give a full list of the potential governorship aspirants of Egba origin.

According to Prof. Oke, the Group has adopted an inclusive disposition to define who is an Egba indigene capable of receiving the group's support in line with Egba culture and tradition. He stated that “for the purpose of our fundamental objective, and in line with Egba’s civilized disposition of equal rights to Egba sons and daughters in reflection of globally acceptable standards, we have been guided as to the definition of “an Egba son or daughter”.

“To this extent, and for the purpose of our inclusive activities and disposition, we restate that An Egba son or daughter is one whose either father or mother is of Egba origin”., he said.

He thereafter, gave a summary of the star studded list of potential governorship aspirants of Egba extraction to include the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Amb. Sharafa Adetunji Ishola, Sen. Lanre Tejuosho, the current Senator Representing Ogun West in the Senate, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) whose mother is an Egba indigene, son of former governor of Ogun State, Hon. Olumide Osoba, daughter of former President, Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, Minister of Finance, Chief Wale Edun, whose interest, the group is yet to confirm. Also listed are the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadiri Obafrmi Hamzat and the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa amongst others.

In his reaction to the recognition of Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as an Egba aspirant, Hon. Oladele commended the group for their forthrightness and fidelity, especially when you consider the fact that Egba culture and tradition treat a person whose either mother or father is an Egba indigene equally and fairly.

According to Oladele, “It is a fact that Yayi’s mother was a native of Kemta, a short distance away from the famous Olumo rock in the heart of Abeokuta and not far from the family house of Pastor Tunde Bakare at Sodeke. Kemta has ten sub-sections ( Igaran Mewa) such as Kemta Odutolu, Ita Sodeke, Kemta Oke-Ejigbo, Kemta Olabode etc. Like Itoku, it is famously known for its adire market, an exotic fabric and colorful cultural product of women of Egbaland. It is under Egba Ake, one of the principal sections that make up Egbaland. Others are Owu, Gbagura and OKe-Ona respectively.”

“ By virtue of his mother’s ancestry, Yayi has all the rights and privileges of an Egba indigene. According to a Yoruba saying, you cannot have a father’s family without having a mother’s family. Iya lo lomo. As a result, all the names listed by the group have equal stakes in Egbaland and no one can claim to have a more superior stake.”

“It is therefore, laudable that the Egba Agenda has recognized Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi as one their governorship hopefuls in 2027”.

The current Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun whose second term expires in 2027 is from Ogun East of Remo extraction, the same sub-group that produced another former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel who governed the State from 2003 to 2011.
