The Healthy Living Water.
There are so many controversies surrounding good or potable water. Visiting the rivers like Otanmiri in Owerri and Iyi Amakam in my village as child and what I see now calls for a drastic action by the government.
Considering the fact that over 70% of the human body is composed of water and same goes with the earth, it is imperative that the quality of water we have in our bodies, in our rivers, and in the atmosphere determines the quality of health of a population!
Looking at the seven colours of the rainbow - ROYGBIV. I.e. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.
This colour spectrum is replicated in everything that exists in creation. Whether in music as doh reh mi fah soh lag ti doh, or in our activities that must seek balance like work and sleep, day and night, and so goes it, by sitting midway in those activities. A good quality water is said to be neutral which is green or pH 7, I.e. midway which means a balance of nutrients in the water.
In water quality, the pH of the water indicates the presence of elements that are found in water. For example, an alkaline water đź’¦ indicates the presence of more alkaline earth metals that are good for the body.
In the picture, the pH of different stages of water during purification are indicated by using methylred test. The first is close to red which is acidic as was collected from the borehole water. The second has passed through a filter bed that removes some impurities and stabilises the water. The third is the water having passed through electrolytic treatment. The fourth being water dosed with some minerals that stabilise it and make it nourishing.
Why did the water have to go through these stages? The population explosion, waste generation, massive industrialisation, etc., but most sadly, the government's inability to provide basic amenities like potable water. All impact on the groundwater(which we refer to as borehole) and our water bodies leading to massive pollution.
Comparing the beautifully coloured crystals I observed in Otanmiri river under the early morning sun and what I see now is a serious concern. We buy water sachets/bottles for drinking and still end up using borehole water to cook in our homes. This is a serious mistake! Many give the excuse that the water undergoes heating when used to cook. Let me clear this. If the government had provided potable water like they did in the 80's, we would not have cases of typhoid fever as it is now .This is because the water was centrally collected, purified and piped to homes and industries. Here is the scare! Every compound sinks a borehole. To get water through borehole, you must break through the rock layers that have been acting as filter beds for rain water. These filtered water by rock layers appear as rivers and streams in locations where the rock strata is depressed, because flowing as a river underground , when they get to a lowland like valleys, they flow out from rocks to give us rivers and streams. So you you see, we are all interconnected. The pollution you cause in your location goes as far as other parts of the earth. So sinking borehole in every compound is a serious mistake. With every rainfall, contaminants get to the groundwater that we use to cook and bathe. Global warming is another topic of discussion but this is one of the major causes. Looking at the nearest future, have you imagined what the numerous boreholes will cause? Massive pollution of groundwater! And with a little shift, not even a serious earthquake, these boreholes will act as connecting dot lines, thereby making it more terrible!
You are what you eat! If your body is more than 70% water and the river of life in you - the blood, is almost water, the earth is also over 70% water, be sure the quality of water that you take! If you are in government, you have a role to play too.
