FORMER Vice President( North central) of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors, Mrs. Chioma Austin-Onuorah, has emerged as the new President of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors(GMLD). The new GMLD President was elected at the 2016 National Elections held in Awka, in contested election conducted through voting.Chioma polled 55% of votes to defeat Sir Alex Obi Okoli who polled 27% votes and Dr C Y Nwachukwu who polled 17.7% of votes, with 0.3% voided votes. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Usman Yusuf, a professor of paediatrics at St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, as the new Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS). Yusuf specializes in Pediatric Hematology & Oncology and practices in Memphis, TN. He is a graduate of medicine from Ahmadu Bello University / College Of Medicine, Zaria. A couple, Mr and Mrs Paulinus Nkwuda, have instituted a N500 million naira suit at the Ebonyi State High Court against Mile Four Hospital, Abakaliki, for alleged medical negligence, poor assessment and mismanagement of the woman’s pregnancy which allegedly led to the death of her baby in the womb.
