“Cancer turned my world upside down when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 41”
At first, my only prayer was simple: let me live long enough to see my children grow up.
I didn’t tell them when I was diagnosed. I wanted to protect them. I wanted our home to remain normal, joyful, untouched. But cancer has a way of demanding honesty. As it progressed, silence became impossible. My husband and I had to find the courage to tell them the truth.
Before cancer, I was a trader. My hands were always busy, my days full, my shelves stocked. Then the hospital bills started coming, one test, one drug, one procedure after another. Slowly and painfully, I sold everything I inherited from my mother just to stay alive.
Eventually, I had to stop trading. Cancer took more than my health; it took my livelihood. Today, I sell less than half as much as I used to. Some days, I don’t sell at all. The strength I once used to build my business is now spent surviving appointments, side effects, and fear.
Every morning, I remind myself why I fight: my husband, my children, and their future. I may have lost money, comfort, and certainty, but I have not lost hope and my story is not over.
