How to make moroccan black soap

The key ingredient of Moroccan black soap is olive oil. It is made by adding pureed black olives to Moroccan olive oil. The olives are blended till they are incorporated into the oil and form a pudding like texture. Potassium hydroxide is added to the mixture as opposed to sodium hydroxide which goes into the making of regular soap bars. The mixture is then heated. It turns darker and thicker on heating. Once it is cooled it can be placed in containers that can accommodate the quantity of soap prepared. The texture as mentioned before remains buttery.

How to use moroccan black soap

Traditionally the use of black soap is part of the hammam experience where women generally visit steam rooms or baths and slather their bodies with black soap allowing it to sink in for about 15 minutes. On washing the skin is scrubbed with the assistance of a lady assigned to assist the women at the bath. However, the properties of black soap can be enjoyed by women all the world. Black soap is used the same way as any other soap. But, it does not lather or produce foam. It has to be applied or rather massaged onto damp skin in a hot shower. The soap can be allowed to sink in for a few minutes. The next step is to scrub the skin using kessa gloves to remove dirt and dry, dead skin. To finish, a cold water shower should suffice.

Hello glow,

So far, I’ve made two kinds of soap – Plain Turmeric black soap and Turmeric Charcoal Black Soap. Of course, the major difference between the two is the addition of activated charcoal. Guys, it turned out amazing. Again, Turmeric and Activated Charcoal are two powders that STAIN LIKE HELL!!! so I was a bit skeptical but eventually decided to try them in small portions. Lo and behold, they turned out stainless. It’s like the addition of raw black soap absorbed the potency of the powders and the results? Nicely mixed soap. I was thrilled! You have no idea how much I’ve been looking for a way around them. In fact, the first thing I did was to use it as a face mask before rinsing out. Awesome, I tell ya!

Anyways, as usual, I’m going be sharing my ingredients and simple method of achieving this soap.

Recipe

6 tsp of Raw Black Soap

1/4 tsp of Turmeric

1/4 tsp of Activated Charcoal

1/4 tsp of camwood

1/4 tsp of sandal wood

1/4 black seed powder

2 tsp of Honey

3 tsp of Lemon Juice

Basic Method

Mix all ingredients together with plastic utensils. Lemon juice serves as the base. It should be the last thing to be added.

Pour mixture in a mason jar or plastic jar with a lid

Cover and leave for about 1-2 weeks to cure.

Use as desired.

There are a few things I’ve learnt during the course of this soap-making process.

– The more lemon juice is added, the more liquid the soap will be. Overtime, I’ve come to prefer a semi-solid/creamy consistency so I use as little lemon juice as possible. Just enough to go round the entire ingredients.

– As for the powders which stains like I mentioned earlier, you need to add as little as possible. Say 1/4 of your raw black soap. Don’t worry, it will go round.

Papaya Body Mask

You will need:1 cup unripe papaya, diced1 teaspoon honey1 teaspoon plain yogurt1 teaspoon vitamin E oil

Method:
Blend all ingredients together into a smooth paste and apply it to your face or body. Massage gently into the skin and let it sit for 15 minutes or longer. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
This vitamin E in this mask helps to fade any blemishes and scar tissue, while the plain yogurt and papaya brighten and soften your skin.

HOW TO MAKE COCOA BUTTER AT HOME

INGREDIENTS:
1kg dry cocoa beans
2 cups of water

PROCESS:
Peel your cocoa beans and ground it to powder.
Pour your water in a pot and heat till boiling
Pour the cocoa powder into the water and let it start cooking
You stir occasionally, this will take you like one hour
After one hour the cocoa would have sunk and the oil floating.
Bring it down let it cool and sieve the oil.
After some hour your cocoa butter would have set and ready.
