Your health is important.
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. "...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

Prayer is considered by most to be a type of religious or spiritual practice where you offer words to God or a power greater than oneself. Harold Koenig, a leading researcher in health and wellness states that "A large volume of research shows that people who are more religious or spiritual have better mental health and adapt more quickly to health problems compared to those who are less religious or spiritual. These possible benefits to mental health and wellbeing have physiological consequences that impact physical health, affect the risk of disease, and influence response to treatment."

Dr. Herbert Benson, a cardiovascular medicine specialist at Harvard Medical School, documented the potential healing benefits of spiritual practices, such as prayer and meditation and relaxation techniques in a special study. Dr. Benson's study demonstrated that the body responds to these practices with what he calls the Relaxation Response, which consists of:

1. lowered heart rate,
2. lowered blood pressure
3. lowered breathing rate
4. reduced need for oxygen;
5. less carbon dioxide production.

The relaxation response is in fact the opposite of the stress response and can be consciously used to modulate the impact of stress and improve the sense of wellbeing.

This is for every Nigerian, (we all agree that all Nigerians are stressed, don't we?) - Have you done any spiritual health practice that will elicit the Relaxation Response today?

You don't have to break the bank making a great salad. All the coloured goodness in your salad can impact the quality and quantity of our lives without leaving us broke. Avocados are in season now so toss some in! NOTE-prices are from the neighbourhood market not the supermarket!

Carrots-N50
Cucumber-N50
Tomatoes-N100
Green pepper-N100
2 egg whites-60
Onions-N20
Lime-N20
Avocado-N100
Lettuce-N100

Boil eggs first and separate the egg whites. Cut and combine all ingredients except lime. Squeeze lime over salad just before eating. This provides 3-4 portions and can be stored in an airtight bowl and refrigerated. Enjoy! Share your thoughts.

I love coconut oil but take a look at the coconut oil profile! Super high in saturated fat(SF)! The kind that kills your heart! Saturated fat is not healthy fat. Found mainly in animal protein like red meat, chicken and turkey. Coconut oil however is a plant oil that has high levels of SF,so beware coconut oil lovers. My take is that it's better on your outsides (hair and skin) than the insides. So eat less of it and try healthier options. Live long and live well.
