Hello all, its really been a while, I trust our January started and ended well...
Lets have a little talk on stretch(ing)..... lately , been doing some mind/body stretch.
Waking up each day , it will take awareness to say that we take time out to stretch before we rise to begin the day.
I grew up in a culture that sees one stretching as being "lazy" and many parents then, quickly halt the action in the process for whoever tried it with whatever they had in their hands (this is typically African, I guess)
Hence a lot of us grew into not stretching and little wonder, we have our muscles to contend with. As it becomes so tensed, stressed out, and tightened
Stretching has also helped to increase serotonin, hence boosting the mood, allowing us to feel good, thereby reducing stress, and releasing emotions, which takes us out of anxiety and feeling low
As we bid farewell to the month of January and start February in a grand style, we like to ease and not jump into taking time out to stretch.
We want to bear in mind also that stretching might mean, a change of mindset, a replacement of some old ideas, dropping off a lifestyle not helpful for our mental and physical health
Maria came to work on her health a while back, she got the go-ahead from her physician to take out time for stretching, she needed strength in her muscle and also the need to build resilience and flexibility.
In our work together, she learnt to take it slowly at her own pace, I remember celebrating every 30secs she was able to achieve in a day, and moved on as she was ready.
The outcome was not only her physical or muscle health but experiencing health in her mental balance, focus and overall flexibility.
