How to Apply Mascara Properly?
For most women, mascara is the most used cosmetic after lipstick. It is no wonder that a mascara wand is found in every woman’s makeup kit. Before continuing, make sure you have picked out the right mascara that best fits your needs.
Applying mascara is not difficult at all. Like any other makeup, it will take some practice to refine your techniques. Start by following the steps below to get your eyelashes looking longer, fuller and more beautiful:
1. Remove any excess mascara or clumps from the tip of the wand. You can do this by scraping the tip against the side of the tube or dabbing it on a piece of tissue.
2. Gently wiggle the wand at the roots of your lashes to apply the mascara at the lash line. Then slowly work the wand toward the tips. The wiggling action helps separate the eyelashes, giving it a more natural look while minimizing the amount of clumping.
3. At the corner of the eyes, pull the lashes outward toward your temple.
4. You can apply additional coats if you want a more defined look. But do so before the first coat dries because swiping on a dried coat will cause clumps. Don’t use more than three coats or otherwise your eyelashes may appear heavy and oily.
5. Keep your eyes open until the mascara dries to prevent smearing.
6. Applying mascara to the bottom lashes is not always required. If you do, it can be applied in the same way as the upper lashes. The key is to do it delicately. Applying too much mascara will make you look doll-eyed, so one coat is usually enough. It helps to place a tissue underneath the lashes to prevent smudging on the lower lid.
Here are some useful tips to keep in mind :-
1. Make sure your eyelashes are clean and dry before applying mascara.
2. For a more natural look, choose a mascara color no darker than two or three shades of your eyebrow color.
3. Replace your mascara regularly and don’t use anything longer than 2 months old.
4. Remember to use a high quality mascara. They cost a little more, but they go on a lot smoother and easier.
5. Don’t pump the wand in and out of the tube. Doing so will force air into the tube, causing the mascara to dry out more quickly.
6. Remove your mascara before you go to bed. Leaving them on overnight can damage and dry out your lashes.
With some practice, you will master these steps in no time.
