It's truly fascinating how evolution works, isn't it? People carrying the sickle cell trait (AS genotype) have a natural defence against malaria. This trait interrupts the parasite's lifecycle in red blood cells, transforming a genetic anomaly into a survival advantage, especially in high-risk areas like Nigeria.

It emphasises the importance of awareness and genetic counseling: Knowing your genotype helps with informed family planning and health decisions.

Get tested early, educate those in your immediate environment, and support research for improved malaria prevention. Staying informed with knowledge can save lives!

Representatives from Nigeria's Coalition of Sickle Cell NGOs showed up strong at the public hearing on the Sickle Cell Disorder Research & Therapy Centres (Establishment) Bill 2025 in Abuja.

Our input is no doubt vital to ensuring this game-changing legislation truly meets the real needs of those living with SCD - better access to research, therapy, counseling, and nationwide centers that save lives, not just in theory.

In a country where 150,000 kids are born with SCD yearly, our lived experiences and expertise will shape a bill that empowers families, cuts mortality, and builds hope.

The Noah's Ark Foundation is proud to fight for equity and healing. Together, we're turning policy into progress!
