🌍 Global Health in Action: The Global TEACH Project 🤝
Lakeshore Cancer Center is proud to be a key partner in the Global TEACH Project (GLOBAL); a transformative student exchange and research collaboration uniting the University of Pittsburgh (Main & Johnstown), Babcock University, and Lakeshore.
This dynamic program, supported by the Global Academic Partnership (GAP), brings together 24 students across Nigeria and the U.S. to tackle global cancer disparities. From cervical and breast cancer awareness campaigns in rural Nigeria to colorectal outreach in Appalachia, the impact has been deep and far-reaching.
🎓 At Lakeshore, we hosted 8 brilliant public health students from Babcock for a 12-week immersive internship. From clinic rotations to outreach planning, their experience underscored the power of early exposure and collaboration.
Meanwhile, our Medical Director, Dr. Oge Ilegbune, represented us in Pittsburgh, delivering a powerful lecture: “Bridging Borders for Health: Empowering Cancer Awareness through US–Nigeria Partnerships.” She met with global health leaders at UPMC, the Center for Global Health, and the PA Office of Rural Health, reflecting on our shared mission and the role of sustainable partnerships in improving outcomes globally.
💡 Key Takeaways:
• Student-led cancer awareness campaigns tailored to local communities
• Institutional commitment across borders drives sustainability
• Cross-cultural teamwork builds global citizens and health leaders
🌟 “We all spoke the same language of hope, innovation, and impact.”
– Dr. Oge Ilegbune
We’re excited for the future: expanding internships, exploring research pathways, and building the next generation of cancer care leaders. Because cancer knows no borders and neither should solutions.
