Aunty Grace, I see what you do and how you effortlessly love and care for the kids you teach; I want you to take my first son and prepare his younger brother for school, as he will start school in September. Make sure you add your fare to the fee, and please get back to me asap. This was the message I received in August.

The first day I resumed work, this woman ensured I was fed and taken care of. Ah! I came for teaching o not for holiday (these were the words I muttered beneath my breath). I couldn't Phantom what exactly I did before coming. Initially, I was a bit scared and confused because I didn't have anything to give back. All I had in mind was to resume on time, give my all (best) while teaching, and return home. While teaching, she comes to check on us to ensure her kids are participating fully and as well share some life experiences with me before resuming back to work. I loved every bit of it. 😊

Whenever I ring the doorbell and her sons observe it's me, they leave whatever they are doing to welcome me. Every day, after two hours, she ensured I was fed before leaving. This act made me feel at home and I gave my very best. It was hard to say goodbye to the kids because they got used to me, and their presence brought out the childish behavior in me πŸ˜….

Teaching is fun. Having a good home tutor and treating them well can't be overemphasized. Respecting your clients, communicating, understanding, and appreciating their acts of kindness by doing your job effectively is the best you can offer to them as a teacher and tutor.

It's disheartening to discover that a school did not promote a child after discovering he can now talk unlike before when he had a speech impediment.

I was hired to take him speech therapy classes in the first term when he was in primary one. During the space of 5 months with prayer and drilling, he started speaking and making simple sentences; by 7 months, he was already reading. When his elder brother was about to write his FSLC, the younger brother's teacher told his father, "Hope your younger son (name withheld) will continue coming? The man replied yes.

After the EOT (End Of Term) in 2024, I checked his result and I discovered he performed well but was still in the same class (Pry 1) instead of primary 3. He wasn't promoted When I discovered this, I told his father to make a complaint to the school Administrator, which he did.

When I went to teach them, I asked for feedback, and he said, "The teacher said it was due to his speech impediment that was why he wasn't promoted, but he uses Pry 1 and 2 textbooks". He added that they were even asking me if I was going to enroll him in another school because his elder brother is now in secondary school, and I said No. But I am now wondering why they still didn't promote him because he is already talking and he can now read.

From the conversation I had with him, I could tell he was confused because he is friends with the owner of the school. I advised him to remove his son from that school and enroll him in a better school. The school knew that the younger son had a speech impediment, and they still accepted him to fulfill all righteousness.

Now he can communicate well, but they have refused to promote him because they want to keep collecting money. What kind of wickedness is this? At least, even if you don't want to promote him to primary 3, give him his flowers; promote him to primary 2 instead of taking him back. He told his wife about it, and she agreed to enroll him in another school.

Dear parents, shine your eyes well o. Some schools are out there to suck your pocket dry without making an impact in your child's life. Assess their examination answer sheet and report card every term. Be part of their academic life!

I remember working in a school whose name is withheld. We were told to resume at 7:30am and receive the children from their parents because there was no gateman. I leave my house by 6 in the morning in other to resume early. This means I don't get to eat before leaving my home.

Most times other teachers resume 20 or 30 minutes after me so I get to the work. Sometimes, when we all resume early, we negotiate amongst ourselves those who receive the children and those who go to have breakfast and vice versa.

A hungry teacher will not teach effectively. And I don't think telling teachers to eat only on break time is the best rule a normal school can offer. Teachers are humans and not slaves!

Dear School proprietress/proprietress ensure that your teachers are treated well. Most teachers give their all (resume on time, teach for hours without eating because of the rules in the school, counsel, etc.). It takes 0% to be human and to treat others well.

I remember teaching a 3-year-old boy in the year 2020. I almost regretted accepting the job. I am pretty sure you are asking why.

He never wanted to learn other than playing with his toys and games on his tab. He couldn't hold a pencil properly and would prefer you to hold his hands to write. He would cry so loud to the point that his parents would come out as if he was given some strokes of the cane πŸ˜….

One day, while he was crying, his father heard him crying. He knew about his mischievous act, and when he came out, he spanked him on his buttocks. I was scared; I had to pull myself to my side and pet him. After all correct a child and still show them love. I drew dotted lines in the form of the number 2 in his book and handed him the pencil. Within me, I thought of what deal to have with him, and the Holy Spirit gave me an idea.

I called his name (withheld). I understand you like playing games on your tab; if you trace the number 2 very well, you get to play your game for 2 minutes before we resume writing again. He stared at me for a while and later agreed. I continued this for a month and a half, and guess what? The boy did well. His handwriting improved, and he was among the top five pupils in his class with good handwriting.

My point here is when we get stuck in teaching or anything we do, let's endeavor to go back to God and our drawing board, trace where the problem is coming from, and seek a solution for it so we don't become a thorn in other peoples flesh and make matters worse when trying to help them.

I posted this write-up in response to the video of the teacher beating the child who could not write.

When I got to one of my client's houses to teach, I observed that the footwear was neatly arranged. I was impressed. Who arranged this footwear I asked? And while my smile slowly surfaced, the youngest replied "I am the one".

Oh! you did this? Give me a high fiveβœ‹. Whenever I go to their house, before teaching I make sure they arrange the learning environment. I am glad my 6-year-old pupil is learning fast. Tidying up the home isn't only for females alone it is for both genders.

Train up a child in the way he/she should go, so that when they are grown, they won't depart from it.

PS: If you look closely, you will observe the sneakers aren't the same, their dad took each of them to purchase football boots for them.

It's a good day to share this testimony from one of my clients.
No child comes to Kiddiestribe and goes back the same. I am not bragging. God's Grace is speaking for us. πŸ’ƒ
