Sickle Cell Disease African Scientific Symposium!

Meet our Keynote Speaker Dr. Obi Peter Adigwe, NPOM, FNAPharm, FAPH, FPCPharm, FPSN.

Dr. Obi Adigwe serves as the Director-General (DG) of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD). He has over two decades’ knowledge and experience in healthcare research, policymaking and management, both in Nigeria, and internationally.

Prior to his appointment as DG NIPRD, Dr Adigwe was the Executive Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group (PMG-MAN), where he played a key role in the development and implementation of policy initiatives which made considerable impact on West Africa’s Pharmaceutical Sector. Some of his achievements in PMG-MAN include the prioritisation of the Pharma Industry in the 2016 Fiscal Policy, and the organisation of the Landmark 2017 Pharma Expo. He was also lead contributor to the Medicines’ Security Concept that aims at improving sustainable access to safe, high quality and affordable healthcare, through local production of medicines and commodities.

Meet our Keynote Speaker Dr. Mories Atoki.

Dr. Mories Atoki (Hon) is the Chief Executive Officer for the African Business Coalition for Health (ABCHEALTH) a not-for-profit Social enterprise Coalition of African business leaders working with other critical stakeholders to support the Governments of African Countries to improve the continent’s health sector.

She serves as the Facilitator of the Health Policy Commission (HPC) at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and she is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School (HBS), London Business School (LBS), and YALE University. Mories has Masters degrees in Law, Finance, and Business Administration, among other academic achievements and her career spans various industries and fields in the public and private sectors.

Meet Our Panelist, Prof. Temitayo O. Olurishe.

Professor Temidayo O. holds a PhD in Pharmacology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He has dedicated nearly three decades to teaching and research at his alma mater, where he obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. His research has touched on the areas of herbal remedies, drug-herb interactions and the study of the modulatory role of the circadian rhythm concerning drug toxicity, interaction, and what they portend for drug repurposing. His research output has led to numerous publications in reputable national and international journals.

Prof. Olurishe continues to inspire the next generation of pharmacologists and researchers towards advancing the frontiers of drug discovery, innovation and repurposing.

Meet the Keynote Speaker Prof. Martin Emeje .emeje. Prof. Emeje is a distinguished Professor of Drug Delivery and Nanomedicine with expertise spanning pharmacy, molecular biology, and nanoscience. Holding degrees from ABU Zaria and the University of Nigeria, where he received notable awards, he completed postdoctoral training in India and holds over 150 publications, patents, and 2,500 citations.

As Head of Department at NIPRD, he introduced innovations, secured funding, and enhanced the department's functions. He also led the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists in Academia, advancing industry-academia partnerships.

Prof. Emeje’s research focuses on using nanotechnology to enhance drug bioavailability and applying herbal medicines in public health. He founded Nigeria’s first nanomedicine center, and licensed Nigeria’s first phytomedicine.

He serves as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), focusing on quality management systems and public health innovation.

Principal Investigators Stakeholders Meeting 2025!

Meet our Panelist for the Principal Investigators Stakeholders Meeting 2025, Prof. Bosede Bukola AFOLABI (FAS, FRCOG, FWACS, FMCOG), a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. She is a maternal medicine expert and holds a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Nottingham, UK. She is internationally recognised for her research and clinical care in sickle-cell disease and anaemia in pregnancy.

Prof. Bosede is a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Academy of Medicine. She is a lead investigator in several research projects, with grants from TETFund, NIH, USA, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Professionally, she is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, West African College of Surgeons, and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

The 2025 PI Stakeholders Meeting will convene experienced and aspiring P*s to drive bold conversations around leadership, innovation, and lasting partnerships in clinical research.

We are proud to welcome the second cohort of the Xcene Academy Internship Program, a hands-on, mentorship-driven learning experience powered by Xcene Research, designed to equip emerging talent for real-world roles in Africa’s growing clinical research landscape.

This structured training program is targeted at early-career professionals and life sciences graduates with a strong interest in clinical research. Through a dynamic blend of interactive classroom instruction, expert-led sessions, and supervised field exposure, interns are introduced to the core principles, tools, and responsibilities essential to careers in Research and Laboratory Science.
