At ASCAT 2025, Xcene Research was honoured to share its journey in advancing sickle cell disease (SCD) clinical trials across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our Chief Executive Officer, Adebukunola Telufusi, represented by Uchechukwu Nwaoha, a Senior Clinical Trial Associate at Xcene Research, presented on the theme:
Conducting SCD Trials in Sub-Saharan Africa: Milestones, Insights, and Xcene Research's Impact.

With a decade of experience conducting SCD trials in 5 Sub-Saharan African countries alongside global sponsors, we have learned that the true success of a clinical trial extends beyond recruitment and retention.

Our experience has led to important insights such as:
- The value of strengthening industry trial experience at sites
- The role of infrastructure and accredited laboratories in trial quality
- How regulatory pathways and sample logistics shape trial timelines

Sickle Cell Disease African Scientific Symposium!

Meet our Keynote Speaker Dr. Obi Peter Adigwe, NPOM, FNAPharm, FAPH, FPCPharm, FPSN.

Dr. Obi Adigwe serves as the Director-General (DG) of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD). He has over two decades’ knowledge and experience in healthcare research, policymaking and management, both in Nigeria, and internationally.

Prior to his appointment as DG NIPRD, Dr Adigwe was the Executive Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group (PMG-MAN), where he played a key role in the development and implementation of policy initiatives which made considerable impact on West Africa’s Pharmaceutical Sector. Some of his achievements in PMG-MAN include the prioritisation of the Pharma Industry in the 2016 Fiscal Policy, and the organisation of the Landmark 2017 Pharma Expo. He was also lead contributor to the Medicines’ Security Concept that aims at improving sustainable access to safe, high quality and affordable healthcare, through local production of medicines and commodities.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Obi Adigwe as a keynote speaker at the , a premier gathering of scientists, researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry experts committed to transforming the landscape of (SCD) care across Africa.

Dr. Mories Atoki (Hon) is the Chief Executive Officer for the African Business Coalition for Health (ABCHEALTH) a not-for-profit Social enterprise Coalition of African business leaders working with other critical stakeholders to support the Governments of African Countries to improve the continent’s health sector.

She serves as the Facilitator of the Health Policy Commission (HPC) at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and she is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School (HBS), London Business School (LBS), and YALE University. Mories has Masters degrees in Law, Finance, and Business Administration, among other academic achievements and her career spans various industries and fields in the public and private sectors.
