This day is one of the most important on our calendar, not just because we gather to celebrate childhood, but because we pause to reflect on the kind of world we are building for children like us and millions of others across the state and country.
This year's theme, stand up, speak up: Building a bullying-free generation is timely and powerful. It reminds us that while children deserve love, learning and laughter, many are facing silent battles of fear, exclusion and intimidation. Bullying is a danger to every child's sense of safety and self worth. It is our duty as a society to make sure that no child feels afraid to be themselves, to go to school, or to speak up.
We, the children must learn to treat one another with kindness and respect. We must speak up for ourselves but also for those who cannot. And to the adults, parents, teachers, leaders, you have the power to create safe spaces where children feel seen, heard and protected.
