A good oral hygiene includes care of the teeth, tongue, gum and the entire oral-facial system 🦷

A healthy oral-facial system is important for well-being, quality of life and confidence of an individual.

Common oral diseases are tooth decay, halitosis, periodontal diseases and oral cancer🦷

Healthy oral practices that help prevent oral diseases include eating healthy meals, brushing twice daily, flossing and routine dental checkups.

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of infectious diseases caused by bacteria, parasites and viruses, affecting about 1 billion people globally.

They are mostly found amongst the world's poorest population with little or no access to healthcare, inadequate sanitation, and clean water.

Some NTDs includes; human African trypanosomiasis, chagas disease, buruli ulcer, scabies, rabies, leprosy, noma, lymphatic filariasis etc.

Who could have believed that in a world where people have limitless access to information, a lot of people are still ill informed or misinformed 🤷

There is a lot of misinformation about health in general to the public by quacks who portray themselves as healthcare professionals.

Recently a young adult who visited the clinic for Hepatitis A screening, when counselled to screen for both B and C, objected saying if one tested Negative for Hepatitis B, there was no way they could test positive for Hepatitis C because Hepatitis C is an offshoot of Hepatitis of B.

We ended the session with a detailed lecture on the difference between the two viruses, prevention and treatments.
However the young adult opted to come back for screening at a later date.

We cannot afford to continue to lose our productive populace to misinformation and misconceptions in regards to health. Thus there is a need for government, education/health institutions, religious bodies and relevant policy makers to work together to curb the excesses of quacks, create awareness and ensure that the general populace receives adequate and correct health education.

The kidneys are two bean shaped organs located behind the abdomen and form part the urinary system
They are responsible for the activation of Vitamin D which is needed for maintenance of healthy bones and muscles; balancing body fluids/electrolytes and production of erythropoietin for red blood cells synthesis.

The kidneys are the main organs that filter waste from the body thus, a sick kidney will lead to accumulation of wastes and toxins in the body.

According to the Nigerian Association of Nephrology, at least 25 million Nigerians suffer from Kidney disease. Kidney disease is any injury or damage to the kidney that has been on for a long time. It can start as an acute condition and if not properly managed could become a chronic kidney disease (CKD) and ultimately end stage kidney disease. At this point, the kidney is said to have failed and the patient would require dialysis or kidney transplant in order to survive
