Plastic pollution permeates every corner of the planet—even in our bodies in the form of microplastics.
Today, we took action to tackle plastic pollution by creating an Awareness to Scavengers on:
1. Impact of Plastic Pollution on health
2. Mitigation of Plastic Pollution and
3. Various ways of Plastic Recycling.
Plastic Pollution has effect on environment, Land, human, ocean/seabirds, etc. As the plastic degrades, the risk to human health increases. Chemicals leach from plastic packaging into food and environment. Hence, any contact with food or human poses a Risk. It can be a direct exposure to skin.
Harmful chemicals, like BPA and phthalates, can leach from plastics into food, water, and the environment, leading to exposure through various routes which affect human health.
Inhaling plastic particles, especially in workplaces involved in plastic production or recycling, can cause respiratory problems and other health issues. E.g Asthma, lungs disease or damage
Pregnancy and nursing products such as baby bottles, pacifiers, and plastic feeding utensils place infants and children at a high risk of exposure.
SOLUTIONS/PREVENTIONS:
* Reduce single-use plastics (Plastic utensils, plastic straws, plastic stir sticks): Use plastic that can be recycled.
* Use alternative materials such as Paper packagings, glasses, bottle flasks, disposable cups, paper bags, steel spoons or cutlery, steel utensils/Biodegradable materials.
