Fishing and desludging of the sedimentation tank at Chanchaga Water Works.
NIGER STATE WATER AND SEWAGE CORPORATION (NISWASEC)
Press Release Wednesday 7th October, 2020.
We wish to notify the general public that we are still being faced with the challenges of flood to Chanchaga Water Works intake which was reported last week.
The situation has become persistent as the flood is accompanied by mud, sand and debris that require frequent evacuation of sludge from the filtration media, sedimentation tank and intake weir. The skeletal services we operate are not sufficient to serve the demand for water supply in Minna and it's environs. This we understand has resulted in shortage of water supply in some parts of the town.
However, our team of Engineers and Technicians are working assiduously to address the situation; and as soon as work is completed, regular water supply will resume.
The Corporation regrets the inconveniences the situation has caused our esteemed customers.

Back washing and desludging of the sedimentation thank at Chanchaga Water treatment plant. This is the evacuation of mud from the filtration media as a result of high turbidity of raw water.
Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation (NISWASEC)
Press Release Sunday 27th September, 2020.
The torrential rain being experienced in Minna in the past few days which is causing heavy flow of Water in streams and rivers has resulted in high turbidity at the water works in Chanchaga and is responsible for the lack of water supply in most part of the town.
The Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation (NISWASEC) had to scale down operations in water production relative to water flow to avoid siltation into the water pumping equipments and the treatment plant.
Our equipment are in good condition and there is no challenge with power supply. However, it is inconvenient to continue to pump water to the treatment plant for production at the moment, as this may lead to blockage in our pumps and filtration media.
We regret the inconveniences the situation may cause our customers.
We are appealing to our customers to bear with us as the situation is occasioned by natural causes through the intensity of the rain which is beyond our control.
