As we celebrate the 2025 Workers' Day, the family wishs to remind us that it's essential to acknowledge the importance of eye health in the workplace.

Many workers are exposed to hazards that can affect their vision and eye safety.

The ocular health 'enemies' in the Workplace include:
1. Occupational eye hazards: Chemical splashes, flying particles, and radiation can cause eye injuries.

2. Digital eye strain: Prolonged screen time can lead to dry eyes, headaches, and blurred vision.

We advocate the implementation of workplace eye safety measures, including:

1. The use of protective eyewears, which can prevent eye injuries.

2. Promoting Eye Health via:

Regular eye exams: Encourage workers to schedule regular eye check-ups.

Eye safety training: Provide training on eye safety and proper use of protective eyewear.

Workplace wellness: Promote overall wellness, including eye health, through workplace initiatives.

By prioritizing eye health, workers can maintain their vision and productivity, contributing to a safer and healthier work environment.

Do you know that the drugs you consume may affect your eyes, adversely?

YES! Systemic medications can have various effects on the eyes. Here are some examples:

Medications and Their Effects:

1. STEROIDS: Can cause cataracts, glaucoma, and increased intraocular pressure.
2. ANTIDEPRESSANTS: May cause blurred vision, dry eyes, and increased risk of glaucoma.
3. ANTIHISTAMINES: Can cause dry eyes, blurred vision, and increased risk of glaucoma.
4. BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATIONS: May cause changes in vision, dry eyes, or increased risk of glaucoma.
5. CHEMOTHERAPY: Can cause vision changes, dry eyes, and increased risk of cataracts.

So, If you're taking systemic medications, it's very important to:

1. Inform your Optometrist about your medications and any changes.
2. Schedule regular eye exams to monitor your eye health.
3. Report any vision changes to your Optometrist, promptly.

This helps ensure your eye health is protected and any potential issues are addressed early.

Check out the attached photos for more systemic medications and their ocular adverse effects.

Think of vision therapy as the physiotherapy of the brain, through the eyes.

That your child with strabismus (squint/ocular deviation), can benefit immensely from vision therapy.

Discuss the options with your child's Optometrist, on your next check up appointment.

Dear Hyperopes,

We know that you can see far and wide, without spectacle or contact lens prescription 😊

We know that you are so longsighted that you can even see into your future😱

But the only way to STOP that headache, eyestrain, eye pain, ocular fatigue, etc; is to WEAR YOUR GLASSES, CONSTANTLY 😎

ATTENTION PARENTS/GUARDIANS!!!!

There is a significant relationship between academic performance and vision problems in children. Uncorrected vision problems can negatively impact a child's ability to learn and succeed academically.

How Bad Sight Affects Academic Performance:

1. Difficulty reading and writing: Children with vision problems may struggle to read and write, leading to poor academic performance.

2. Reduced attention span: Vision problems can cause eye strain and fatigue, leading to a reduced attention span and decreased ability to focus.

3. Poor comprehension: Children with vision problems may have difficulty understanding and comprehending material, leading to poor academic performance.

4. Low self-esteem: Uncorrected vision problems can lead to low self-esteem and a lack of confidence, which can negatively impact academic performance.

5. Behavioral problems: Vision problems can lead to behavioral problems, such as hyperactivity and restlessness, which can disrupt the learning process.

Common Vision Problems in Children:

1. Myopia (nearsightedness): Difficulty seeing distant objects clearly.

2. Hyperopia (farsightedness): Difficulty seeing close objects clearly.

3. Astigmatism: Blurred vision at all distances due to an irregularly shaped cornea.

4. Convergence insufficiency: Difficulty coordinating eye movements, leading to eye strain, fatigue and deviation.

Importance of Regular Eye Exams:

Regular eye exams are crucial for detecting vision problems in children.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends:

1. Infants: First eye exam at 6 months.
2. Preschoolers: Eye exam at 3-4 years.
3. School-age children: Eye exam yearly. Those with confirmed refractive errors, every 6 months.

Early detection and correction of vision problems can significantly improve academic performance and overall quality of life for children.
