The Story
Ááyán (Cockroaches) was a rich prominent Figure who had many slaves working for him. He decided to buy a new slave that would make his work more easier.
In the olden days, if anyone wanted to take a new step or do something great, he/she would go to Babalawo to consult Ifá to know if he/she was in right direction. Ááyán went to consult Ifá from the Babalawo called "Òbàrà Ọ̀sẹ́ kò sẹ fún ẹlòmíràn, Ẹni tó dá níí se fún" (Alias). His decision to buy a new slave was good, his riches would increase was why he consulted Ifa.
The Ifá Priest advised Ááyán to perform sacrifices for him not to buy the slave that would bring him down and probably kill him. The Ifá Priest told him to appease Èsù Òdàrà after the sacrifice. Babalawo also advised him to be kind to his slaves. He should be treating slaves very well.
Ááyán gave his Priest a bad look. How on Earth would a slave worked against his Master talk less of killing him? He told his Babalawo that Ifá disappointed him with this message. Ááyán refused to perform all the sacrifices that the Priest recommended for him. He did not appease Èsù Òdàrà as well.
Ááyán went to the market and bought Adirẹ (Hen) as his slave. Adirẹ was energetic and agile but he was a poor person. Ááyán took him home. He began to give Adirẹ difficult tasks to do. Ááyán was maltreating Adirẹ despite working tirelessly for him.
One particular day, Adirẹ went to consult Ifá. He could break away from the farm of slavery and become respected was why he consulted Ifa. The Ifá Priests advised Adirẹ to perform sacrifices that he would break away from slavery and became a great person. The Priest told him to appease Èsù Òdàrà after the sacrifice that Èsù Òdàrà would change his poor status to a better status.
Adirẹ did not call his Babalawo a liar. He offered the sacrifices recommended for him. After the sacrifice, he appeased Èsù Òdàrà.
On a fateful day, Ááyán commanded Adirẹ to do an irritating work for him. Adirẹ became angry and Èsù Òdàrà instructed him to charge at Ááyán. Èṣù Ọ̀dàrà spoke to Adirẹ that Ááyán didn't have any power to fight him back. When Adirẹ heard this inspiring voice, he charged at Ááyán. Fear gripped him. He was trying to run away from Adirẹ but Adirẹ finally bite him.
This was how Adirẹ had victory over Ááyán who maltreated him. Adirẹ became great and successful.
Because of wicked things that Ááyán had done for Adirẹ for so long, it makes Adirẹ hate Ááyán even till today. Anywhere a Hen see Cockroaches, it will make sure it get rid of them.
Ááyán was sadly praising his Babalawo while regretting his refusal to offer the sacrifices recommended for him. Adirẹ, on the other hand was praising Ifá, hailing his Babalawo with joy and jubilation.
He says, this is how his Babalawo revealed the message of Ifá:
Obara ọsẹ kò se fún ẹlòmíràn
Ẹni tó dá níí se fún
Adifafun Aayan ti ń lọ ree ra Adirẹ lẹ́rú
Ẹbọ ni Awo pé kí ó ṣe
