Two days ago, the HelpMum Team spent the entire day at HelpMum HQ interacting with our investors (Gavi, the vaccine alliance) from Geneva, Switzerland, discussing some of the exciting AI innovations we are developing with their funding support, and planning the next phase of our collaboration for the important work we are doing on Vaxsocial.

We also discussed our methodology, such as the open source strategy for our AI innovations.
At HelpMum, we want to create a strategy around developing open-source AI innovations that can help aid collaboration across the world with developers and organizations using our technology to improve maternal and infant healthcare, and then helping us scale our innovations at massive impact.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life, and immunization is one of the most effective tools to safeguard our children from preventable diseases, helping them grow up healthy and resilient. Nigeria, however, faces a significant challenge, with 2.3 million children remaining unvaccinated each year—representing the largest population of children in the world who have not received a single vaccine. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for innovative solutions to improve vaccine access and coverage.

To address this issues the Kano state government has adopted our HelpMum digital innovations (HelpMum vaccination tracker, HelpMum chatbot and HelpMum ADVISER) into their respective primary health care system and we have started the deployment of our digital innovations across all the primary health centers in the state.

This month, our state officers in Kano state visited different primary health centers. During his visit, he interacted with health workers and nursing mothers, introducing them to our innovative tools: the HelpMum Vaccination Tracker, HelpMum Chatbot, and HelpMum ADVISER. He also helped the nursing mothers present at the centers install the HelpMum vaccination tracker and provided access to our HelpMum chatbot on their mobile devices, facilitating easy monitoring of their child's vaccination schedule, access to accurate vaccine information, and timely immunization. Additionally, he also pasted our banners that contains two barcodes that can be scanned for effortless access to our HelpMum Chatbot and HelpMum Vaccination Tracker app.

HelpMum is committed to increasing vaccination rates through innovative digital solutions, with the goal of reducing vaccine-preventable diseases and improving children's health outcomes across Africa.

Childhood immunization remains the most effective way of protecting children from a range of preventable infections. It's one of the most effective ways to significantly reduce child mortality rates. Despite their numerous benefits, Immunization rates in certain states, like Jigawa, remains very low. Nursing mothers, who are the primary caregivers of children, face challenges that often lead to delayed or neglected vaccinations. These challenges include a lack of awareness, misinformation, cultural beliefs, and logistical difficulties in accessing vaccination services.

At HelpMum, we have taken up the challenge of addressing these issues. We are integrating our digital innovations (HelpMum Vaccination Tracker, HelpMum ADVISER, and the HelpMum Chatbot) into the Jigawa State healthcare system to ensure that every child receives their immunization at the appropriate time.

This week, our Jigawa state officer visited different primary health centers. She discussed the benefits of HelpMum's digital innovations with the nursing mothers and health workers present. She also assisted them in accessing our vaccination tracker and chatbot. Additionally, she posted posters containing barcodes that facilitate easy and seamless access to our digital innovations across these healthcare centers.

Continuous Integration of HelpMum’s Digital innovations in Partnership with the Oyo State government into 10 Primary Health Centers in Oyo State.

Childhood immunization is a fundamental aspect of public health, providing protection against numerous serious diseases and enhancing community well-being. Ensuring that all children receive the recommended vaccinations helps prevent the spread of infectious diseases, safeguards vulnerable populations, and promotes a healthier future for generations. Effective education and innovative solutions that improve immunization outcomes are essential to enhancing vaccination efforts and achieving higher immunization rates.

Nursing mothers, fathers, and healthcare personnel all play crucial roles in promoting vaccination and fostering a culture of immunization. Fathers are often key decision-makers in the family and are actively involved in healthcare choices for their children. Their support and commitment to vaccination protect their children and contribute significantly to the collective effort of building community immunity.

Our team visited 10 primary health centers in Ogbomosho North Local Government Area of Oyo State this week. During our visit, we conducted sessions to help health workers and nursing mothers familiarize themselves with our innovations, which include the HelpMum Vaccination Tracker, HelpMum Chatbot, and the HelpMum ADVISER. Men were also engaged; we assisted them in installing the HelpMum Vaccination Tracker on their phones, ensuring they receive timely reminders about their children's upcoming vaccination appointments.

In Nigeria, routine immunization coverage is low, with the country still a long way from reaching the 90 percent target. Places like Katsina State in northern Nigeria have particularly low rates, with only about 10 percent of children fully immunized. One of the major barriers to achieving higher immunization coverage and completion in states like Katsina is the persistent issue of lack of adequate information about immunization and vaccine hesitancy, insurgency, lack of sufficient health care facilities etc making it difficult for nursing mothers and caregivers to access vaccination services for their children.

In addressing this pressing issue, our Katsina State officer worked with community health workers, and the Katsina state government to identify areas with low immunization uptake. Our Katsina State officer visited Rafin Dadi, Albba community in Katsina State, to administer vaccines to children who either require immunizations or have missed previous appointments. During the visit, our state officer engaged with several nursing mothers who shared that the reason why they don't take their children for immunization is lack of financial resources to take their children for immunization. They expressed their sincere gratitude to HelpMum for making it easy to get their children immunized against deadly diseases.
