🚨 Attention parents! Never ignore these warning signs in babies — they could signal something that needs quick attention. 👶❗
1. Blue lips: If your baby’s lips are turning blue, or the mucus membranes in their mouth or tongue- turn blue, this is a sign that they are not getting enough oxygen, calling emergency services is very appropriate.
2. High Fever: Fever above 100.4°F (3 months and younger), 101°F (3-6 months), or 103°F (6 months to 2 years) requires immediate medical care. In kids older than 2, fevers aren't urgent as long as your child appears to be well hydrated and acting normal.
3. Difficulty Breathing: If their breathing is consistently hard and fast, and you can see that they are using their chest muscles more than they should be and that their nostrils flare out, it may be a sign of respiratory distress and it's crucial to contact your pediatrician immediately.
4. Worsening jaundice: If your newborn is getting yellower and yellower after birth, they may have worsening jaundice. Not all jaundice is dangerous. Some is normal and will go away on its own, but if it is increasing as opposed to going-away, it may need an evaluation.
5. Dehydration: Dry mouth and lips, decreased urination, a flat fontanelle in infants, dry skin, or skin that stays bunched when you pinch it, or excessive vomiting or diarrhea. These signs are all associated with dehydration and need to be treated fast because dehydration can lead to shock.
6. V0miting After Falling: V0miting after a head injury will require evaluation because it can be a sign of a concussion or of bleeding inside the cranium.
7. Swollen Face: Swollen tongue, lips, or eyes, especially when accompanied by vomiting or itchiness. These often signal a serious allergic reaction and need immediate attention.
8. Long-Lasting Fever: A fever that doesn't go down with treatment, or that lasts more than five days, is a sign that the infection may be too strong for the body to fight off, and your doctor may want to
