There’s an outbreak of scabbies due to the low humidity in our environment. The rainy season promotes the widespread of scabbies and we’ve had several cases just last week and this week.
What is scabbies?
Scabbies is a contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites(Sarcoptes scabiei) that burrows into the skin. It causes intense itching, especially at night, and a rash with small red bumps or blisters.
It spreads through close skin contact; if any member of a family is infected, it is advised that the whole household be treated!
Sarcoptes scabiei cannot survive in a hot environment, so wash your clothes, beddings, towels in hot water and iron your clean clothes and sheets to prevent reinfestation.
Visit your doctor or pharmacy if you notice symptoms. Early treatment stops the spread of scabbies.
Note: self medication is highly prohibited 🚫
