So i had this Scenario at the Pharmacy today..
Patient: Good morning nurse
Me: Morning Madam, i'm a Pharmacist not a nurseππ( like i get this all the time, that one is story for another dayππ)
Patient: "I won buy Amlodophine"
Me: Amlodipine madamπ€π€, how many MG??
Patient:Just give me the one way go fit my system
Me:How many MG you dy take before?
Patient: I never take before, na now i wan start am
Me: Wetin be your BP? And who tell you to start??
Patient: I never check o, na my neighbor say she dy use am, say e go prevent BP
Me:π²π²π²
Offers to check her BP and guess what?? BP reading was: 110/70mmHg
Me: Hmmm, madam your BP dy very ok, you no need Amlodipine
Patient: Give me eh, i dn dy think too much, i wan prevent am, i no wan get BP....
And we went on and on, she seemed very adamant, so i just asked a question
Me: Madam, you go like die before your time??and i heard all chants of "God forbid, No be my Portion" i helped to echo the Amen!!!πππ
And from there, Started counselling, made her see reasons why she doesn't need Amlodipine or any other BP medication, etc... At the end it was a big thank you followed by.."I go come dy check"πππ
Please and please, do not start any BP medication without due prescription by a Medical Practitioner...
I'm yet to see the brand of Amlodipine that prevents a high blood pressure according to her tho..lol
Always seek the advice of a Pharmacist before starting any drug at all..
Back to the question....Starting ANTIHYPERTENSIVES ON YOUR OWN IS A BIG NO!!!
