TIPS FOR NEWLY DIAGNOSED HYPERTENSION:

LIFE STYLE MODIFICATIONS:

*WEIGHT-maintain normal body weight (BMI 18.5-24.9).

*DASH diet (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension diet)-rich in fruits, vegetables, grains low-fat dairy products, and low in fat, cholesterol, and sodium.

*SALT-reduce dietary sodium to no more than 2.4g/day.

*EXERCISE-regular aerobic activity such as walking (30 min/day on most days).

*ALCOHOL-limit to no more than 2 drinks/day for men and 1 drink/day for women.

*ROUTINE MEDICAL CHECK UP.
