Dyspepsia (Indigestion)
❇️ Dyspepsia is recurrent discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen.
It may cause stomach ache, burning pain, nausea, bloating, or early fullness.
It is often associated with eating.
Causes of Dyspepsia
❇️ Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
❇️ Peptic ulcer disease
❇️ Side effects of NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin)
❇️ Gallbladder disease
❇️ Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection
Treatment
Self-Care / Lifestyle Remedies
❇️ Eat smaller, frequent meals
❇️ Avoid foods that trigger symptoms, such as fatty and spicy foods
❇️ Avoid lying down for at least 3 hours after meals
Medications
❇️ Antacids
❇️ H₂ blockers (e.g., cimetidine)
❇️ Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)
• e.g., omeprazole, lansoprazole
❇️ Antibiotics if H. pylori is the cause
• e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin
