*Topic:* Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation
On October 3, 2025, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Rivers State Directorate, hosted its weekly social media dialogue to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The discussion centered on celebrating the nation's milestones while addressing the challenges that continue to impede national growth and development.
Participants reflected on Nigeria’s resilience and achievements over the years, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action in building a greater, more unified nation. The dialogue underscored the potential embedded within the country and proposed practical solutions for overcoming present challenges.
*Highlights of the Dialogue*
Participants celebrated the unique attributes of Nigeria, with emphasis on the following:
1. Youth Potential
Nigerian youth continue to excel globally in diverse fields such as entertainment, law, fashion, and technology. Their resilience and innovation have produced globally recognized figures, reaffirming the nation's potential.
2. Natural Endowments
Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural and mineral resources, a vast landmass, and relative freedom from major natural disasters, assets that position the country for sustainable development.
3. Social Impact
Through individual efforts and community-driven initiatives, Nigerians are positively impacting their environments and communities, demonstrating the power of civic responsibility.
Pathways to National Unity
To strengthen unity and promote national development, the following actions were recommended:
1. Uphold national core values
2. Foster tolerance and inclusivity—transcending tribal, regional, and religious divides
3. Embrace family planning and instill core values in children from an early age
4. Leverage social networks for social reformation and positive engagement
5. Practice selfless service and demonstrate a duty of care toward others
*Leadership Recommendations*
In envisioning a better Nigeria, participants shared what they would prioritize if in positions of leadership:
1. Honest and Visionary Leadership
Leadership built on integrity, vision, and a merit-based system to eliminate nepotism and prioritize the collective good.
2. Youth Development and Empowerment
Increased investment in youth as strategic drivers of national transformation.
3. Quality and Inclusive Education
Ensuring access to quality education for all, including the establishment of informal education boards to reach underserved communities.
*Conclusion and Call to Action*
The session concluded with a resounding call for unity, patriotism, and shared responsibility. Participants emphasized the importance of building strong institutions and embracing our collective identity as Nigerians. Nation-building, they reiterated, is not solely the responsibility of the government—it is a shared duty that begins with individual contributions.
As the dialogue highlighted, “Home is home, no matter where we are.” This message serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of national pride, commitment, and collective ownership in the journey toward a greater Nigeria.
