“The Proposal I Almost Said Yes To”

Ada met Daniel during her NYSC year in Ibadan. He was tall, articulate and worked with a reputable tech firm. From their first conversation, he ticked all her boxes: prayerful, successful, and knew how to dress. Within two months, he was already calling her “my wife.”

Everyone envied her. Her friends would say, “Ada, you don’t know what God has done for you o!” Even her mum prayed every night that the relationship would lead to marriage.

But Ada noticed something.

Whenever she tried to correct Daniel on something no matter how small he’d raise his voice. He would say, “So you're trying to teach me how to be a man now?” Then he’d ignore her for two days before acting like nothing happened.

Once, he told her not to wear makeup when visiting him, “because he preferred his woman natural.” But when his female colleague visited during a hangout, Daniel complimented her lashes, her nails, even her perfume.

He kept secrets too. She once found out about a female “best friend” he traveled with on a business trip. When she asked him, he replied with: "You’re too suspicious. You need to stop acting like a village girl."

Ada kept quiet.

Until one day, during a disagreement, Daniel shouted at her in public. Not just shouting he grabbed her wrist tightly and told her to “never embarrass him again.” People were watching. She was humiliated.

That night, Ada didn’t sleep. She laid on her bed, replaying everything she had ignored the red flags gaslighting, the anger, the double standards, the possessiveness.

The next morning, Daniel sent flowers and a long text saying, “No man is perfect. Just manage me.”

Ada didn’t reply.

Instead, she wrote one sentence in her journal:
“Red flags don’t change in marriage they grow.”

And just like that, she returned his ring.

Remember dear singles,
No matter how handsome, spiritual, or successful someone seems, character is king. Don’t explain away the signs. A broken engagement is better than a broken marriage.

Finding Your Mentor

Hey there, lovely Singles! Today, we're diving into the exciting world of mentorship, with a biblical twist that will surely inspire and guide you on your journey to personal and professional growth. So grab your coffee, settle in, and let's uncover the power of having a mentor in your life!

✅Proverbs 13:20 sets the stage beautifully: "Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm." This verse reminds us of the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who can help us navigate life's twists and turns with wisdom and grace. A mentor is like a shining light on a dark path, guiding us towards our true potential.

Now, you might be thinking, "How do I find a mentor?" Well, fear not, for Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 has some wise words for us: "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."
