*A RECAP OF GOVERNOR OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: STATEMENTS TO NOTE*
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, on September 25th, 2025, held his routine monthly interaction to brief Abians on government activities and take questions from the public.
Below are some key statements to note:
1. On Political Distractions
“Some of those who distort facts do so for political and selfish reasons, but we cannot lose focus.”
2. On Accountability
“We have made it a monthly ritual to appear before Abians, give account of what we are doing, and take questions from the people to whom we must account.”
3. On Healthcare
Primary healthcare centres are being fitted and made fully operational before commissioning.
Pregnant women now access antenatal and delivery services under professional supervision.
Staff accommodation in many centres ensures 24/7 service.
22 secondary health centres are under review, while the specialized hospital at Ummuneato is under construction.
Recruitment of 771 medical professionals is ongoing, attracting applicants even from outside Nigeria.
4. On Agriculture & Technology
Each of the 17 LGAs is being positioned to drive food security and job creation.
TechRise 2: Training of 50 youths per LGA (850 in total) in cutting-edge technology has commenced.
Evening markets (minimum of four per LGA) with solar power installations are underway to boost rural economies.
5. On Youth & Sports
A state-wide football competition is ongoing to prepare talented youths for professional opportunities locally and internationally.
6. On Infrastructure
The Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road reconstruction will soon begin.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will commission the Port Harcourt Road, Aba, and several other projects next week.
Julius Berger Plc and the Ministry of Works were commended for quality delivery.
10 roads are currently under construction in Aba by the Greater Aba Development Authority.
Aba Leisure Park, handled by Landmark, is progressing.
7. On Aviation
Work continues on the airport runway.
Issues of land compensation have been resolved after a review and correction of documentation errors.
8. On Governance & Appointments
Two new commissioners and a special adviser were sworn in.
The Ministry of Lands and Housing was split for efficiency.
Cabinet reshuffles were made to improve service delivery.
9. On Agricultural Expansion
A new framework is being developed focusing on food security and revenue.
Pilot rice farming in Owerrinta has recorded success and will be scaled up.
35,000 farmers and over 8,000 acres of arable land have been enumerated using new technology for data-driven interventions.
10. On Security
Abia remains relatively peaceful, thanks to security agencies.
Citizens were urged to stay vigilant, especially in the ember months, and report suspicious activities.
Renovation and expansion of prisons are ongoing to aid criminal reform.
11. On Education
20 smart schools are under construction, with existing schools receiving attention.
Newly recruited teachers have resumed work.
4,000 more teachers have been approved for recruitment.
Accreditation of 33 courses at Abia State Polytechnic was celebrated, while the College of Technical Education, Arochukwu, got a new rector.
12. On International Relations & Social Protection
The Governor hosted the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, launched the state’s social protection scheme (SUSHI), and welcomed the Israeli Ambassador, who chose Abia as his first state visit outside Abuja and Lagos.
The US Ambassador is also expected.
Special programmes for senior citizens are being developed under the Ministry of Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation.
