There are reasons why certain medicines are not given to children of certain ages. One, adverse drug reactions. Two, underdeveloped metabolic and excretory systems to break down and remove the medicines from the body.

So many parents and caregivers think that children can take all medicines that adults take… just reduce the dosage by half or so… that’s what so many do when they self-medicate their children. It is wrong.

The medicines mentioned above a just a few of the many medicines children below 2 years shouldn’t take.

📌 Promethazine is used to manage nausea, vomiting, allergies and induce sedation.

📌 Cyproheptadine is also an antihistamine used in the management of allergies but also increases appetite. This is what makes parents misuse and abuse this medicine in children.

📌 Loperamide is used in the management of diarrhea.

📌 Aspirin is used to manage fever and pain.

✅ Dear Pregnant Women, do not take any medicines without clarifying from your Doctor and Pharmacist

✅ Dear New Mums, do not take health advice and medicine recommendations for your baby from just anyone. Speak to a Pediatrician and a Pharmacist.

Milk may be the culprit!
Why?

Milk reacts with some antibiotics when taken at the same time. The Calcium in the milk binds with the antibiotic and prevents its absorption.

If a medicine is not properly absorbed by the body, it will not he effective.

When taking the following antibiotics, avoid milk and dairy products like yoghurt.
📌Ciprofloxacin
📌 Ofloxacin
📌 Levofloxacin
📌 Tetracycline
📌 Doxycycline
