STROKE also known as Cerebrovascular accident (CVA).

According to the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association (ASA), stroke is the objective evidence of permanent brain, spinal cord, or retinal cells death due to vascular cause based upon pathological or imagining evidence with or without the presence of clinical symptoms (Sacco, et al., 2013; AHA & ASA, 2013; Ali et al., 2020).

It is the world's second-leading cause of death and the third-leading cause of disability and morbidity (Khazaal, et al., 2021; Akinyemi et al., 2021).
Its occurrence causes a blockage or rupture of a blood vessel, resulting in the cessation of blood flow (oxygen and nutrients) to a part of the brain, resulting in the death of brain cells (Ellis, 2018; Cohan, Venkatesh & How 2019).

STROKE CLASSIFICATIONS ARE:
ISCHEMIC STROKE: This is due to a disruption in blood flow to a specific area of the brain.

HEMORRHAGIC STROKE: This happens when a blood artery bursts, causing bleeding into the brain parenchyma or the subarachnoid space.

RISK FACTORS ARE: NON-MODIFIABLE and the MODIFIABLE risk factors thus;

The non-modifiable risk factors are;
Age
Gender
Race
Genetics

The modifiable risk factor;
Hypertension
Cardiac Disorders
Heavy Alcohol Consumption
Cigarette Smoking

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF STROKE:
Face weakness
Arm weakness
Speech difficulty
Hemiparesis
Sensory loss
Vision Problems
Lack of coordination and balance
Disorientation & confusion
Severe headache (Thunderclap)
Vomiting
Loss of consciousness
