Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a serious infection that occurs in your uterus, fallopian tubes and/or ovaries. It affects females.

PID is mostly caused by the spread of a s*xually transmitted infection such as chlamydia or gonorrhoea from the va**na or the cervix to the reproductive organs (fallopian tubes, womb, ovaries).
For females who are not s*xually active, PID can be caused by the spread of normal va**nal bacteria.
