My commitment in metabolic medicine has really made me to know that the reason why drugs like Vi**ra and other aphrodisiac agents inhibit phosphodiesterase-5 which inhibits the hydrolysis of cyclic GMP that is highly concentrated in corpus cavernosum of the p***s. This causes the release of nitric oxide that relaxes the smooth muscles in the corpus cavernosum and increases blood flow into the p***s and makes it erect. Also, my experience has taught me that L-arginine can to some extent do the same function of nitric oxide. My question is this: N-Monomethyl arginine, a derivative of arginine has been known to be a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor and hence causes erectile dysfunction. Why is this happening when it still contains arginine? I need comments from Medical Doctors, Biochemists, Pharmacists and other health professionals. Thanks
