RSUTH Launches Digital Safety Infrastructure for World Safety Day
The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has launched a pioneering digital safety framework to mark the 2026 World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Led by Chief Medical Director Professor Chizindu A. Alikor, the initiative introduces a QR-code-based incident reporting system, allowing staff to report hazards and workplace violence instantly via mobile devices. This modernization effort replaces manual paperwork with a data-driven approach to prevention and real-time investigation.
The launch also unveiled critical safety pillars, including standardized signage and a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan. Addressing this year’s psychosocial theme, Professor Alikor emphasized that healthcare worker well-being is the foundation of quality care. He noted that a system cannot be truly healthy if its workers are unsafe, urging the public and media to support and protect providers. Guest speaker Dr. Forman Onoha praised the hospital for setting a regional benchmark by using digital trend analysis to address both physical and mental workplace risks.
The event received strong backing from institutional stakeholders, with goodwill messages delivered by Dr. Alali Dan-Jumbo (College of Medical Sciences), Dr. Harold Chris-Biriowu (Resident Doctors), and Scientist Nicholas Anyie (Medical Laboratory Scientists). Notably, Nurse Obua Eucharia spoke on behalf of the Head of Nursing Services and all nurses, reaffirming their commitment to a hazard-free clinical environment.
The ceremony concluded with the official unveiling of the new resources, solidifying RSUTH’s commitment to being a sanctuary for both staff and patients.
