This is a story shared by one of my clients...
I Didnât Believe in Insurance⌠Until It Saved Me.
When my family and I moved to Canada from the Philippines, we started from scratchânew country, new challenges, and big dreams. Insurance? That wasnât even on my radar. Back home, it wasnât something people talked about seriously, and I was convinced we couldnât afford it.
One day, my husbandâs friend told us about critical illness insuranceâa plan that would pay us $100,000 if either of us was diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer. I laughed it off. âWeâre young, weâre healthy, and besides, where would we find extra money for premiums?â
But my husband? He went ahead and got it anyway.
Eight years later, my world turned upside down.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In that moment, fear hit me hardânot just for my health, but for our finances. What would happen if I couldnât work? How would we cover the costs?
Then I remembered the policy I once dismissed.
We filed the claim, and within a week, $100,000 was in our account. There was no stress, no long wait times, just relief. That money helped with my treatments, supported our family, and even became the down payment for our first home.
Today, I am six years cancer-free. I wake up every day in a house that once felt out of reach, grateful for the decision my husband made all those years ago.
I used to think insurance wasnât importantâuntil it saved me.
