DEHYDRATION AND THE AGED.
Dehydration can present with fatal consequences among the general populace. However, it gets so worse among the fragile aged sect who are very prone to dehydration.
Firstly, why are elderlies prone to dehydration?
Elders are more prone to dehydration due to various factors such as reduced thirst sensation due to age, decreased kidney function, need to be on some medications that increase urine output such as their antihypertensive, for some, who are diabetes, their sugar level is not control, and this may also lead to dehydration, mobility limitations, and underlying health conditions that may affect fluid balance. Additionally, age-related changes in the body's ability to conserve water can contribute to dehydration risk.
Early signs of dehydration among elders can include dry mouth, dark urine, headache, fatigue, dizziness, confusion, and reduced urine output. It's crucial to address these signs promptly as dehydration can escalate quickly, especially in older adults.
