Stay Safe: Wear a Life Jacket Before Every Water Journey

Before you set out on any water trip—whether it's by boat, kayak, or ferry—make sure you're wearing a life jacket. It only takes a moment to put on, but it can save your life in an emergency. Accidents on water happen quickly, and a life jacket ensures you stay afloat even if you're injured or unconscious. Safety first, always!

First Aid Tip: Stop the Bleed!

Bleeding can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. Here’s what to do:

Stay Safe – Wear gloves if available.

Apply Pressure – Use a clean cloth or your hands to press firmly on the wound.

Keep Pressure On – Don’t lift the cloth to check. Add more layers if needed.

Raise the Wound – If possible, elevate the injured area above the heart.

Call for Help – Dial emergency services or get the person to medical care ASAP.

Being prepared saves lives. Learn more or take a first aid class with your local Red Cross!

Today marks the 106th anniversary of the founding of the IFRC.

The IFRC, formerly called the League of Red Cross Societies, was established in 1919 in Paris at the Regina Hotel by representatives from five founding Red Cross societies 🇯🇵🇬🇧🇺🇸🇫🇷🇮🇹.

For over 100 years, the solidarity and dedication within the IFRC network have been unwavering. Thank you to all our volunteers and our staff for remaining, always, on the side of humanity.

Together, let's continue to pave the way for more compassion for another 106 years and beyond.

WORLD RED CROSS DAY 2025
Theme: "On the Side of Humanity"

Every year on May 8th, we come together to celebrate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day—a day to honor the unwavering commitment of volunteers and staff who stand beside humanity in times of crisis, disaster, and need.

This year’s theme, "On the Side of Humanity," reminds us of the Red Cross Movement’s core mission: to provide hope, relief, and compassion—without discrimination.

Whether it's in war zones, after natural disasters, or within our communities, we are always there... on the side of the vulnerable, the wounded, and the forgotten.

Join us as we mark this special day with activities, reflections, and renewed dedication to our humanitarian mission.

Date: May 8, 2025

Together, we stand ON THE SIDE OF HUMANITY.

Cholera Alert: Stay Safe, Stay Informed!

Cholera is a life-threatening disease, but it's preventable and treatable. In many parts of Nigeria, especially during the rainy season, outbreaks can spread fast through contaminated water and food.

Here’s how you can protect yourself and your family:

Drink only clean or treated water (boil or use chlorine).

Wash your hands often with soap and water.

Cook food thoroughly and eat it while hot.

Use clean toilets and dispose of waste properly.

Avoid raw or street food unless you’re sure it’s safe.

If you or someone shows symptoms like severe diarrhea or vomiting, seek medical help immediately. Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) can save lives.

Together, we can stop the spread.

📢 The Importance of Compulsory First Aid Training for Teachers and Students in Primary and Secondary Schools 🚑❤️

In a world where emergencies can happen at any moment, knowing basic first aid can make all the difference! Schools are meant to be safe spaces for learning and growth, but accidents can occur anytime, from minor injuries to life-threatening situations.

Here’s why first aid training should be COMPULSORY in primary and secondary schools:

✅ Immediate Response Saves Lives: Trained teachers and students can provide immediate assistance before medical help arrives, reducing the severity of injuries.

✅ Promotes Safety Awareness: Learning first aid skills encourages a culture of safety and responsibility within the school environment.

✅ Empowers Students with Lifelong Skills: First aid training builds confidence and practical skills that students carry into adulthood, making them responsible citizens.

✅ Reduces Panic During Emergencies: When equipped with first aid knowledge, students and teachers are better prepared to stay calm and act effectively during emergencies.

✅ Creates Safer Learning Environments: Schools become safer when more individuals are trained to respond to health emergencies.

It's time to make first aid training a priority in all our schools. Let's give our teachers and students the skills they need to save lives and make their environments safer!
