On Saturday, 15th June, 2024, we had the pleasure of launching our "Insurance Against Diabetes" project which successfully provided free Health Insurance to over 50 persons living with Diabetes for the next year. This insurance will cover costs of medications, medical consultations, consumables, laboratory investigations and surgical care where necessary. In addition, we provided them with free Glucometers and strips to enable them monitor their blood glucose levels and ensure proper control.

Adopting the lifelong approach to diabetes care, we also launched a Diabetes support group aimed at providing assistance to people living with diabetes. This group will have scheduled meetings aimed at educating patients on how to lead healthy lives and provide regular mental health support where necessary.

In attendance was Mr. Williams Ebiokobo, the Coordinator of the National Health Insurance Authority, Akwa Ibom State (NHIA AKS); Dr. Blessing Ubani, a Consultant Endocrinologist at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH); Mr. Edet Elijah Esiet, the Coordinator of NHIA UUTH among others.

We hope to scale up this project in the coming months to ensure that additional enrollees and beneficiaries are impacted by the work we do through this project.
