HEALTH/NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION ON ULCERS
These are wound(s) found on the walls of the stomach or large intestine.
There are basically two types of ulcers.
1. Gastric ulcer (stomach ulcer)
2. Peptic ulcer (duodenum or large intestinal ulcer)
STOMACH ULCER/GASTRIC ULCER
This is a wound found on the walls of the stomach. This wound (ulcer) could be shallow or deep depending on duration, nutritional habits and/or management of the wound.
Stomach ulcer (gastric ulcer) develops mostly due to frequent acid reflux in the stomach, especially in an empty stomach, causing the weakening of the stomach wall leading to the wound (ulcer).
Those having ulcers are generally advised to avoid or at least reduce intake of acidic foods like citric fruits, milk etc, to avoid making the ulcer symptoms worst.
DUODENUM OR LARGE INTESTINAL ULCER/PEPTIC ULCER
This is a type of wound found on the intestinal walls. This wound is usually manifested as a result of the establishment/metabolism of Helicobacter pylori bacteria on the intestinal walls.
