NIMELSSA UNIUYO: Free Vital Check Program – A Huge Success!

On April 25th, 2025, NIMELSSA UNIUYO, in collaboration with the Vice President's Office, hosted a Free Vital Check Program at MLS Hall 1 with the theme "Promoting Health Awareness through Early Detection."

Over 40 students and staff were screened for blood pressure, BMI, blood glucose levels, and more — completely free! We also had enlightening health talks, educational material distribution, and referrals for further care when needed.

Despite a few early hiccups, the turnout surpassed expectations, and the feedback was amazing! Big thanks to the Department of MLS, Nursing, Radiography, SUG Health Directorate, our professional volunteers, and everyone who made it possible.

Highlights:

-Stronger interdepartmental collaborations

-Real-world experience for MLS students

-Growing community impact!

Recommendations for the Future:

The Office of the NIMELSSA Vice President, in collaboration with the NIMELSSA South-South Director of Health, invites all NIMELSSITES to a vital check sensitization program this Friday at the Medical Laboratory Science Hall, Uniuyo Annex Campus!

- Blood Pressure: High blood pressure can be a silent killer, even in young adults. Regular checks can help you detect any issues early!
- Blood Sugar Level: Knowing your blood sugar level can help you prevent or manage diabetes. Don't assume it's only for older adults – it can affect anyone!

Maiden Induction/Orientation Program for Freshmen (100L & 200L Direct Entry Students)

Dear NIMELSSAITES,

We are pleased to announce the Maiden Induction/Orientation Program for all newly admitted students in our department. This program is specially designed to welcome and equip you with essential knowledge about your academic journey, departmental policies, and career prospects.

Date: Monday, 3rd March, 2025
Time: 10am
Venue: The chapel, UUTH.
Dress-code is strictly corporate

This event is an excellent opportunity for you to learn from esteemed speakers and distinguished guests who will share valuable insights that will guide you throughout your stay in the department. You will also get to interact with faculty members, senior colleagues, and fellow students.

This is compulsory for all 100-level and 200-level (Direct Entry) students to attend, as this induction will provide you with a solid foundation for academic and personal success.

Get ready for a day of excitement and sportsmanship as the Department of Medical Laboratory Science hosts its inaugural football tournament on Tuesday, the 25th, as part of their Health Week celebrations!

Team Histopathology (2023) will face off against Team Chem Path (2021) in a battle of skill and strategy, while Team Microbiology (2022) takes on Team Haematology (2020), all in a friendly but intense match.
